Credit: Anthony Causi/New York Post The Pittsburgh Penguins got a little bigger on Thursday afternoon. The team announced that they claimed forward Taylor Pyatt off waivers from the New York Rangers. Pyatt, 32, is listed at 6-foot-4 and weighs 235 pounds. He is now one of the tallest players on the roster and is the heaviest player on the Penguins. Pyatt has really struggled this season with New York, recording 1 assist in 22 games. He had scored over 10 goals in 7 of his 12 seasons in the NHL before the 2013-14 season. Pyatt tallied 6 goals and 5 assists last season with New York under John Tortorella in 48 games. However, he has been a healthy scratch lately for the Rangers under new head coach Alain Vigneault. It will be interesting to see if Pyatt can turn around his career in Dan Bylsma‘s system since the Penguins have been linked to Pyatt in the past.  He will wear No. 17 and will most likely play in Pittsburgh’s bottom-six. The Penguins face the Rangers tomorrow night. In other news, forward Chris Conner will be out 6-8 weeks after being told he will need surgery on his hand.

Pittsburgh Penguins Trade Rumors by @MadChad412 and @IanAltenbaugh

Trade rumors are simply the best. As a Pittsburgh Penguin fan and blogger, I've learned to accept them for what they are and usually greet them with a smile. When it comes to the Pens, every year the trading target for them seems to be a top-six winger. This year is no different.  Last year, Ray Shero blew the lid off of the roof when he traded for future Hall of Famer Jarome...

Penguins claim Taylor Pyatt off waivers

The Taylor Pyatt era in New York has come to an end. The Pittsburgh Penguins have claimed the winger off waivers, absolving the Rangers of his $1.55 million cap hit and clearing a spot on the 50 man reserve list. Over his 70 games for the Rangers, Pyatt was a pretty big disappointment, putting together a line of 6-6-12 over the season and a half. Tweet

Pittsburgh Penguins Claim Taylor Pyatt Off of Waivers

The Pittsburgh Penguins have claimed forward Taylor Pyatt off of waivers from the New York Rangers. This is an interesting move by the Pens considering that they have been crushed by injuries, and Pyatt has missed significant time with a concussion this season.Go ahead, read the rest »

Rangers sign draft pick Anthony Duclair

Sorry for missing this yesterday, but in preparations for the storm I missed this signing. The Rangers signed 2013 3rd round pick –and big time talent– Anthony Duclair to an entry level deal yesterday. Duclair is the first Rangers draft pick from 2013 to sign a deal, although that comes as no surprise. Duclair was a huge talent headed into the draft, but questions about work...

Knee, elbow injuries have stalled start for Penguins' Letang

Kris Letang could see it. His game — fluid skating, own-zone physicality, sharp passes, quick shots — started to look like it should, then he landed awkwardly on his left elbow Dec. 13 at Consol Energy Center. He has not played since, a stretch that could extend to a 10th game Friday night, and Letang knows that the second half of this season is basically a do-over. “You...

Lineup notes: Cally in; Miller, Falk, Del Zotto out

Per the beat writers (multiple), Ryan Callahan will make his return tonight against the Penguins. J.T. Miller will be a healthy scratch, but it’s important to note that AV said the kid is playing well, and that it’s just a numbers game. Derick Brassard will move back to center. On defense, Justin Falk and Michael Del Zotto remain the healthy scratches. Tweet

Can Someone spare a clue or two?

Anthony Duclair (BlueshirtsUnited)Here is a message to those of you who are trashing that the New York Rangers signed Anthony Duclair (NYR 2013 3rd) to an entry level contract on Thursday: Stop complaining about a kid who is doing exactly what you wish the New York Rangers were doing. Yes that is right he is working his butt off to EARN this contract.Sounds harsh you bet because...

For the purpose of this post, we’ll need to look back at 2013 in its entirety...

Feature Friday: Brooks Orpik

By: Melissa Esing (Off_thepost)   Throughout the 2013-2014 NHL season, I’ll be posting player features each Friday. This week, we’re going to take a look at Brooks Orpik.    Pittsburgh’s beloved Brooks Orpik was announced on the Team USA roster earlier this week, along with teammate Paul Martin. Now, as we all can recall in December, Orpik was out for three weeks with a...

Rangers mid-season grades: the goaltenders

United in brutal paint jobs. So far, the crew here at BSB has covered the GM, Coach, defense and bottom six forwards in our mid-season grades series.  Today, we touch on something of a sore subject: the goaltending.  Even though Marty Biron played in several regular season games, he immediately retired and gave way to Cam Talbot.  For this reason, I’m not going to grade Marty...

Year In Review: New York Rangers

Year In Review: New York Rangers As 2013 winds down and everyone prepares for 2014, the NYSK writers wanted to take some time  to talk about the ups and downs of the past year (mostly downs for all of our teams). Today, we will look at the year in review for the New York Rangers. In this year-end special, we will talk about the good, the bad, and the outlook for 2014.  The Rangers...

Penguins stay red hot at home with win over Rangers

Sidney Crosby scored his 23rd goal of the season and added two assists as the Pittsburgh Penguins ripped the New York Rangers 5-2 on Friday night for their 11th straight home win. Marc-Andre Fleury made 33 saves for Pittsburgh and Jussi Jokinen ended a lengthy scoring drought with two goals. Chris Kunitz also scored twice for the Penguins, who won for the 10th time in their last...

Rangers-Penguins Preview

The Pittsburgh Penguins haven't lost a game at home in seven weeks. They've also fared well there against the New York Rangers in recent seasons. After splitting a four-game trip, the Penguins can extend their winning streak at Consol Energy Center to 11 on Friday night by earning a fifth consecutive home victory over the Rangers. Two of Pittsburgh's three losses in...

The US men's Olympic hockey team was named today after the Winter Classic and Paul Martin and Brooks Orpik are on it.

Henrik Lundqvist Will Pay Tribute to Yankees Legends With Special Mask For Rangers’ Stadium Series Games (Photo)

New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist wears some of the most creative masks in the NHL, but his latest design that will be used in the team’s upcoming Stadium Series games might be his best yet. The Rangers will take on the New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders in a pair of outdoor games on Jan. 26 and Jan. 29, respectively, with Yankee Stadium in New York playing host...
