The NHL is back and almost in full swing today with two games in Europe and eleven in North America tonight. Sunday features two games including the NHL's return to Winnipeg at 4 p.m. CDT (NHL Network).

It is a party that has been years in the making is going on in Winnipeg as the Jets officially return. Illegal Curve has the rundown for all the day's events on Sunday.

The Predators started off well in Columbus on Friday with a 3-2 win. Here is our game story and Morning After round-up. We will have our preview of the Preds game in St. Louis up shortly.

In the meantime, make the jump for today's news and links...

In Pred Nation...

Don Cherry's rant on Thursday night got the attention of Stu Grimson who he called by name. Here was the response from @asgrimson: don cherry:  show me an article where i say (1) fighting should be banned or (2) the role of enforcer causes a life of addiction. Here's Puck Daddy's take on the matter. Stu Grimson appeared on NHL Home Ice yesterday to refute Cherry's charges. He asked Cherry to go on Coaches Corner and apologize. Here is the audio of Stu's Home Ice visit.

From @NHLPredsInsider: Happy to announce that @mikefisher1212 was announced as the #Preds second Alternate Captain (joining Ryan Suter) at a team dinner last night. Ryan Porth has an audio clip of what Barry Trotz looks for in a captain.

Predators.com has the video of  Pekka Rinne from the NHL Media Tour in New York from last month. It's great to see him get the recognition that he deserves.

There's been a hiccup in the embracing of the Atlanta fans by Nashville and Carolina. They are now considered "local teams" and the 85 games not piped into Atlanta are blacked out by the NHL.

Sam Page has a post about momentum and the Predators.

Dirk Hoag has his Saturday links round-up.

David Singleton wants to get it started at Hockey Independent.

Erik Rosenhek had Launy Schwartz as a guest on This is Toronto discussing the new Hockey 54 show on 102.5 The Game in Nashville.

The Milwaukee Admirals start their 35th season tonight with a game in Peoria.

From @aaronadmirals: Scott Ford is @mkeadmirals captain. Alternates are Tyler Sloan & Ryan Thang on road, Chris Mueller & Kyle Wilson at home. All good picks.

Shanny TV...

It wasn't a full out edition of Shanny TV but the NHL fined Mats Zuccarello $2,500 for his "push" from behind on Kyle Clifford on Friday.

Around the NHL....

Adrian Dater has a list of things to do in all 30 NHL cities at Sports Illustrated. How did Mule Day not make the list?

RLD's Saturday Faceoff considers whether the Premier Series should continue.

Matthew Lombardi has found inspiration from Steve Sullivan in his fight back to the NHL in Toronto.

Jamie Benn broke the glass in Dallas as we see in this video.

Kevin Allen discusses Nicklas Lidstrom's run at an eighth Norris Trophy. I predict that with a decent season he'll get it, retire, and turn it over to the Shea Weber's and Drew Doughty's for a while.

Is there a goalie controversy in DC already? Tomas Vokoun is not set to start the opener.

Ryan Kennedy considers which of the nine rookies from the 2011 NHL Entry Draft that started the season in the NHL will actually last past the nine game mark.

Patrick Hoffman takes a look at Canadian coaches on the hot seat. I'll throw Joe Sacco's name into the mix too.

Matt Cooke was the NHL goals leader after day one of the season. Can he keep it clean long term?

James O'Brien has joined The Rink Podcast as a co-host in Episode 67.

Steve Lapore gives the thumbs up to the new NBC-ized Versus coverage. Thursday's opener between the Bruins and Flyers set records for Versus.

There is still no word on where the NHL Awards will be this year but NHL.com has a new contest where the prize is a trip to Las Vegas. Hopefully the Awards Show will be back there in June.

Ex-Pred Scott Walker has joined Hockey Canada as an assistant coach for the junior team.

Here is great use of WiFi at the Xcel Energy Center.

Odds and Ends...

In China, folks have been performing "ghost marriages" for over 2000 years where dead people have arranged marriages.

A state legislator in Florida wants to remove a ban on "dwarf tossing" using the argument that it prevents dwarfs from getting jobs in a bad economy.
