Prior Meetings...

October 13, 2011 - Coyotes 5, Predators 2 (Bridgestone Arena) - After starting the season 2-0 on the road, the Preds came home and looked flat in a game where little went their way. Paul Bissonnnette would not answer the call from Brian McGrattan in his first game as a Predator. Jason Labarbara got the win in goal.

November 3, 2011 - Predators 3, Coyotes 0 (Jobing.com  Arena) - Pekka Rinne signed a $49 million contract in the morning and then threw a 35 save shutout that night. That about says it all.

December 6, 2011- Coyotes 3, Predators 2 (Bridgestone Arena) - The Predators gave up goals early (9 seconds in) and late (1:45 left) in a game that the Preds never led and the loss left the team and coach frustrated. The team's record was 12-11-4 at the end of the game. From that point forward, they went 36-15-4.

March 12, 2012 - Predators 5, Coyotes 4, (SO) (Jobing.com  Arena) - Andrei Kostitsyn scored the only goal in the shootout to give the even the season series with the Yotes. In what was billed as a battle of top goalies, both Rinne and Mike Smith gave up four goals on 35 shots.

Second-round spotlight shines on Smith, Renne

According to Nashville legend, Pekka Rinne played so little in his homeland of Finland that the Predators' scout who discovered him based his reports on what he saw in warmups. According to actual league transactions, Mike Smith was waived by the Tampa Bay Lightning almost 14 months ago because he was the third choice behind starter Dwayne Roloson and backup Dan Ellis. Maybe...

Rinne, Smith to battle it out in Round 2

The first thing that comes to mind when breaking down the upcoming Western Conference Semifinals series between the Predators and Coyotes is how similar the two teams are.  Both rely on systematic approaches.  Both have good, underappreciated coaches behind the bench.  Both have more depth than star power.Oh yeah, both have outstanding goaltending. The first round in the Western...

Franchise player? Predators have 3 in latest run

Any team is happy to find one franchise player to build around. Detroit coach Mike Babcock looks at the Nashville Predators and sees three: goaltender Pekka Rinne, defensemen Shea Weber and Ryan Suter. The trio reflects the Predators' approach of building a team from the net out. Rinne, Weber and Sutter are a key reason Nashville will be playing in the second round of the Western...

Coyotes and Predators expecting tight series

The Nashville Predators bogged down Detroit in the first round and the Phoenix Coyotes did the same to Chicago. Now, after beating two of the NHL's most skilled teams, they move on to face a similar-looking opponent: each other. Nashville and Phoenix, two teams that rely on superb goaltending and contributions throughout the lineup, kick off what's expected to be a tight...

The Preds captain is nominated for the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s best defenseman. His fellow finalists are Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins and Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators. Chara, the captain of the Bruins, took third in last season’s voting...

Western Conference playoff winners show power of goaltending

I'm pretty sure most Eastern Conference teams would love to have a Jonathan Quick of their very own... or a Mike Smith, or a Pekka Rinne, or a Brian Elliott. Heck, a nice Cory Schneider would help any of the Eastern Conference teams out in a pinch. Quite frankly, the goaltending coming out of the Eastern Conference quarter-finals so far has been underwhelming at best. The most...
