The Nashville Predators were able to hold off a strong Calgary Flames’ attack towards the end, after the Predators scored three unanswered goals on fan appreciation night. Fans at Bridgestone Arena left satisfied with a 4-3 win and Frosty’s to eat on their way home.   This was Nashville’s first win since April 2 against the Colorado Avalanche. Since then, the Preds have been winless in their past eight games, thus eliminating themselves from playoff contention. Nick Spaling ignited the three goal streak 18:31 in the second period on the power play by deflecting Shea Weber’s shot from the point past Miikka Kiprusoff. The team built off that game-tying goal and carried the momentum over into the third. 3:17 in the third, Austin Watson netted his first career National Hockey League goal thanks to his patience waiting to find a good place to shoot. 1:23 later, Matt Halischuk was rewarded for his hard work around the net by scoring the game winner. Give credit to Bobby Butler, who perfectly fed Halischuk alone in front of the net. Calgary’s Roman Cervenka scored two goals Tuesday night, including a late goal in the third period that kept his team interested with the time ticking away. There were a few milestones recorded during the game. David Legwand scored his 200th goal of his NHL career, which put the Predators on the board in the first period. Meanwhile on Legwand’s goal, Filip Forsberg recorded his first NHL point. Defenseman Hal Gill played in his 1,100th career NHL game, no small accomplishment for anyone who has ever played in the league. Also, as stated earlier, Watson scored his first, of hopefully many career goals. Pekka Rinne recorded the win by stopping fifteen of eighteen shots he faced. Former Predator Brian McGrattan and current Pred Rich Clune were chirping at each other the entire game. Supposedly, both of them are friends, but they sure weren’t acting like it Tuesday night. McGrattan and Clune were set to drop gloves, but for some reason one—probably Clune—didn’t want to. Enough was enough for the referees and McGrattan, alone, received a ten minute misconduct, while Clune was given just a minor in the second period. After the game, captain Weber was aware of the disappointment the fans had by not making it to the playoffs. He let the fans know, “We’re going to be back next season and get back into the playoffs.” Trotz added, “We have a lot of things to do in the summer. We will be back, better than ever.” Flames scratching their usual guys: Prior to puck drop and during pre-game warm ups at Bridgestone Arena, across the street at Rippy’s Restaurant was half of the Flames’ team. (Seen below are the team’s scratches.) Head coach Bob Hartley stated he wanted everyone to get a feel of the NHL before the season ended. Since Abbotsford, the Flames’ AHL affiliate, didn’t make the playoffs, the NHL club elected to call up several players that many fans never heard of. Similar to the Preds’ situation, they want to get as many people in the lineup as possible to get a good look at each of them.
