The NHL is under way and there is no better time to snipe some of those hot starts off of the waiver wire. Since the season is less than a week old, there are many players that are still just sitting on your free agency who weren't drafted, but are putting together a nice start. As with everything, getting off to a hot start is key for many reasons. Early pick ups can turn a mediocre draft in to an early contender. Here are the stories that have caught my attention through the first week. Alex Ovechkin is looking like the player who was being drafted as a number one overall fantasy pick for so many years. His goal scoring touch is apparent and his heavy shot has him at the top of the rankings after the first week. With four goals, two assists, three power play points and 26 shots in his first 3 games, Ovechkin has started the season in beast mode. Mikhail Grabovski is making the Capitals management look like a million bucks with this signing. Riberio who? Grabovski is doin...
BEST OF MAXIM
Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was not happy when the new NHL uniform rules were announced. It meant he could no longer tuck in his jersey, or roll up his sleeves so that his elbow pads were showing. It would appear though that Ovechkin and Bauer have found a way for the superstar to keep one habit of his going. If you look closely, his elbow pads have been customized...
Washington Capitals forward Joel Ward stepped away to go to the bathroom. After tidying up, Ward went to exit his stall but couldn't. He was trapped.
After three explosive games by the Washington Capitals’ captain, Alexander Ovechkin, the NHL finally recognized him as the NHL’s “First Star” of the week. Ovechkin jumped out on to the league lead in goals with 4 along with points where he racked up 6 in the first 3 games. He also leads the NHL in total shots on goal with 24 so far.
Although the winger is...
There’s never a dull moment when Alex Ovechkin is around.
Capitals rookie Connor Carrick scored his first NHL goal with his team down 3-0 to the Calgary Flames in the second period on Friday night. Carrick’s goal helped spark a comeback that included two goals from Ovechkin, a late game-tying goal from Nicklas Backstrom to send the game into overtime and a shootout win for...
Well, you know what coffee does to you in the morning, right after breakfast. It's time to go, um, read for a little while.
This natural and not-at-all embarrassing physical process happened to Washington Capitals winger Joel Ward at the Omni Hotel in Dallas. Ward was having breakfast with his teammates, and left to find a stall. But the stall wouldn't let him out. The lock...

The highest point in Joel Ward‘s career came when he scored a Game 7 overtime goal to upset the Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2012 playoffs.
The lowest point came this morning when he locked himself in a bathroom stall.
Washington and Dallas are set to face off on Saturday night and the morning started as a regular game day for the 32-year-old Ward. But after a team...

The Washington Capitals took a 2-1 loss to the Dallas Stars Saturday night, dropping them to 1-2-0 on the season. Yet again, the Capitals' even strength play continues to suffer, with their lone strike tonight coming on the power play. Honestly, was not a fun game to watch, but on to the reCap: Continue reading "Capitals 1 Stars 2 ReCap"
NEW YORK (Oct. 7, 2013) – Washington Capitals right wing Alex Ovechkin, Montreal Canadiens center Lars Eller and Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury have been named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the week ending Oct. 6. Continue reading "Stars Of The Week"

It seems like the Capitals never really enjoy going through the Big D, and this time we actually mean Dallas. Returning to Denton County for the first time in three years, the Caps left the same way as they did...
from Chris Johnston of Sportsnet,
Prior to facing his former team for the first time on Saturday, MacArthur made it clear that there was no love lost between him and Carlyle. In fact, he indicated that he wouldn’t even say hello if the two were to cross paths at Air Canada Centre.
“I didn’t have a relationship (with him) and not many guys do,” MacArthur told sportsnet...
