The New York Rangers (17-15-2) defeated the Winnipeg Jets (18-17-2) by the score of 4-2, tonight. For a box score go to Yahoo! Sports. ...if the Rangers can play like this for the final 13 games of the season, they're going to be a dangerous team. Unfortunately, based on what we've seen this season that's a big "if." ...as was the case last season, when this team is cycling and has their forecheck going they're actually a very good offensive team. Absolutely baffling why they refuse to do it sometimes. ...on a night in which Stepan has two goals, I was most impressed with the save he made in the first period. ...Ryan Callahan could have the most under-rated skill set in the league. Doesn't get sweeter than that move on the shorty. ...it really is a privilege to be able to watch a player with Nash's talent on a nightly basis. ...i guess Tortorella's "Wheel of Line Match-ups" came-up aces tonight. ...can someone get Zuccarello a shorter stick so he can stop high sticking guys in the face? In all seriousness, it's no secret that I haven't been Zuccarello's biggest advocate, but he's changing my mind real quick. ...and Gaborik seems like the beneficiary of the Zuccarello addition as he's been flying and is finding the puck on his stick in a position to score more often then not. Now he just has to start burying his chances. ...did I actually see McDonagh and Nash stick up for Lundqvist when he was run into by Wheeler in the first period? Nah, couldn't have been. ...does anything exemplify Richards' struggles more than the absolute whiff on the second period opportunity with a wide open net and no Jets defender within 10 feet of him? Actually, yes. The missed empty net in third period, when he inexplicably tried to shoot the puck through Byfuglien instead of taking his time and just burying it. ...assuming the press release for Kreider's re-assignment to the CT Whale is already written for tomorrow morning. ...Rangers had given up a power play goal in six straight games, re-enter Powe into the line-up and the PK is a perfect 4-for-4. Also helps when the Jets have Perry Pearn behind their bench. ...who else am I forgetting? Hmmmmmmm. Oh yeah, Lundqvist. He was pretty good tonight. ...McDonagh with what could be a season saving play on the 5-on-3. If he doesn't intercept that pass it could have been game over right there. Instead Callahan ties it up with a short-handed goal and away they go. ...got to give the defense credit for bouncing back after a shaky first period which saw numerous Jets naked in front of Lundqvist. And seriously, it's time to call the Hamrlik claim a disaster and re-insert Gilroy on defense. ...five blocked shots and three hits for Girardi. Just another day at the office. ...home and home with the Penguins starting on Wednesday night at MSG. Doesn't get bigger than this folks. Game highlights...
