The New York Rangers have claimed defenseman Jeff Woywitka off of waivers from the Montreal Canadiens. At age 28, Woywitka has played with the St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars, and is currently in the final year of his contract. He will come at a cap hit of $650,000.  I guess this is the team's idea of a veteran defenseman, but I don't see him playing over Tim Erixon in either of the first two games of the season. He will take a spot from either Stu Bickel or Brendan Bell, though, who've both cleared waivers.  Woywitka was a former teammate of Brad Richards in Dallas.
