Jesse Spector at the Sporting News answers a question from a reader wondering if the Rangers have enough cap room to acquire both Shane Doan and Shea Weber...

"The Rangers currently have a touch more than $55 million committed to 21 players for next season, with restricted free agent defensemen Michael Del Zotto and Anton Stralman still due for new contracts. So, the short answer that New York would likely be unable to fit both Doan and Weber under the cap—whatever it winds up being—although adding both players would lead to roster redundancies and the ability to jettison salary."

Spector adds that the most likely way for the Rangers to obtain Weber is through a sign and trade with Nashville.

...even if the Rangers did have enough cap room, they're not getting either one of them let alone both. Most likely scenario is that they stay put. Nash or bust folks.

Apparently, saving the Rangers every night isn't enough for Henrik Lundqvist, as he's now attempting to save the NHL...

Time to talk future, time to head over to NHL Office and meet with the League..#NHL12-13#NHLPA

Brandon Dubinsky will also be representing the players.

And finally, Michael Rappaport at the Hockey Writers begins his countdown of the top 10 Rangers games of 2011-12 with the 4-0 victory over the Canucks on October 18th, 2011...

"After going 0-1-2 in their first three games, four games in Western Canada was the last thing the Rangers needed. A bad road trip meant that the Rangers would have to dig themselves out of a hole in the standings before even playing their first home game of the season. It certainly didn't help that the first game of the road trip was against the Canucks, who won the Presidents Trophy the year before and went to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 2010-11...

"...Despite the offensive explosion in the third period, nobody lost sight that Lundqvist was the best player on the ice in the 4-0 win. The Rangers were outshot 40-19, and if it wasn't for Lundqvist's play early in the game, the Rangers would not have had a chance to beat the Canucks."

Mike Rupp, Ryan McDonagh, Brian Boyle and Marian Gaborik scored for the Rangers.

...that was a huge win, a bad beginning to the Western trip after a tough start in Europe and Long Island could have easily sent the Rangers into an early season tailspin that they might not have been able to recover from.

...this performance from Lundqvist absolutely helped kick-start his Vezina run.

Here's highlights from the game...
