Found December 03, 2011 on Kukla's Korner:
The Detroit Red Wings didn’t exactly play flawless hockey in defeating an injury-depleted Buffalo Sabres team 4-1 on Friday night, but as the Wings kicked off a December in which they’ll play 14 more times over the next 29 days, and given that they didn’t get into Denver until after 3 AM, emerging literally (see: Justin Abdelkader is OK despite getting his bell rung by Brayden McNabb) and figuratively unscathed thanks to a strong start and 40 minutes of “Red Wings on cruise control” hockey…Is about as much as Wings fans could possibly hope for as their team ground out its seventh straight win. The Sabres, however, took few positives from a game in which the Wings staked out a 3-1 lead over the course of the game’s first fourteen minutes; the fact that they lost both Nathan Gerbe (skate cut) and Patrick Kaleta (groin) to injuries added, well, injury to insult, but Robyn Regehr offered no excuses for his team’s performance to BuffaloSabres.com’s Kevin Snow: Continue reading "Re...

Tootoo thrown out after barreling into Miller

At 15:54 of the second period, Jordin Tootoo barreled into Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller, and eleven players were involved in an ensuing scrum. Miller is just coming off a concussion, suffered when he got run over by Boston's Milan Lucic three weeks ago. Tootoo got a major for charging and game misconduct. Here is the video (courtesy On the Forecheck), with audio from Tootoo...

Red Wings 4, Sabres 1

Jimmy Howard made 27 saves, and the Detroit Red Wings stretched their winning streak to seven with a 4-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night. Jakub Kindl, Johan Franzen, and Valtteri Filppula scored first-period goals for Detroit (16-7-1), which last won seven in a row in March 2010. Pavel Datsyuk pushed the lead to 4-1 by scoring into an empty net with 1:17 left. Howard...

Monkey's off back as Kindl scores

Sabres LW Ennis to return vs. Red Wings

Buffalo Sabres left wing Tyler Ennis will return to the ice for Friday's game against the Detroit Red Wings. Ennis, 22, has been sidelined with an ankle injury since Oct. 22. The 26th overall pick of the 2008 draft, Ennis has yet to record a point in seven games this season.

Mark Spizzirri: GAMEDAY: Red Wings vs. Sabres

Winners of six straight games and 10 of their last 12, the Detroit Red Wings have nicely regained their form over the past 3 weeks following an uneven start to the season. Sitting in a tie for 2nd in the Western Conference, only 2 points adrift of the surprising Minnesota Wild for the top spot, the Red Wings enter another critical juncture of their regular season beginning tonight...

Kevin Freiheit: Jochen is smokin'

It was a pretty convincing win for Detroit a last night. I can't help but love watching them play. The Red Wings played extremely well in the first period and their puck movement is crisp and near perfection, especially on the power play. The Sabres fell behind early, and like Thomas Vanek said, "you fall behind 3-0 to Detroit and it's pretty much over." ...

GDT - Game #24:  Red Wings at Sabres (7:30)

The Red Wings (15-7-1) are seeking their first seven-game win streak since March 20-April 1, 2010, and will try to accomplish that against a Sabres team (13-10-1) that’s 1-3-1 in its last five.  Pavel Datsyuk, has a team-best five goals and five assists during Detroit’s six-game win streak. DET are 5-5 on the road this year (23 in league), and begin a stretch where they will...

The Red Wings want/will get home outdoor game

Better late than never, I guess. The Detroit Red Wings deserved to play host to an outdoor NHL Winter Classic within the first couple years of the existence of the game. Seen as the best organization in hockey by many, the NHL hasn't been shy to pushing, pulling and taking advantage of the Wings in recent years. The Wings should finally be moving to the Eastern Conference...

Red Wings-Avalanche Preview

For the last two weeks, the Detroit Red Wings have been thoroughly overwhelming their opponents. They've been doing that to the Colorado Avalanche for the last dozen years. The Red Wings look to win an eighth straight game for the first time in nearly four years and continue their dominance over the Avalanche on Sunday night at the Pepsi Center. Detroit (16-7-1) has outscored...

Sabres' Miller to dress for Friday game vs. Wings

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller will dress for the first time in nearly three weeks when the Sabres host the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night.

GARTH: Aborted Launch

Another false start. Another home loss. This game was over at the 14:41 mark of period one, when Val Filppula beat Jhonas Enroth. Earlier goals by Kindl and Franzen buckled Buffalo's knees. Per their system, Detroit owned the puck. They win faceoffs, loose pucks and rebounds, and they refuse to share it with their opponents. The Sabres got schooled by the best puck...

Sabres' Miller returning after 3-week absence

Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller will dress for the first time in nearly three weeks when the Sabres host the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night.

Red Wings notes from win over Sabres

Jimmy Howard made 27 saves to lead the Red Wings to their seventh straight win.

Why The Wings Are West And Ding Dong, Jim’s The Best

Never.  You’ll never catch Jimmy D or Tick Tock Kenny Holland or, god help us all, Uncle Mike Babcock begging the league to move or not move another team for the sake of “preserving a rivalry.”  It’s pathetic.  San Jose should have three natural rivals: Anaheim, LA, Phoenix.  And a few others, like Dallas or even Vancouver.  Doug Wilson doesn’t care about the ...
