Aaron Portzline reports that the Columbus Blue Jackets have had trade talks with the St. Louis Blues involving David Perron. While this report holds a lot more water than your usual trade rumor, several aspects of this report remain unclear. It's not clear what piece(s) Columbus would use to acquire Perron and it's unclear just how serious these talks have been. At the very least we now know at least one team is exploring a potential trade involving Perron.  It's safe to assume the Blues have had several talks with several teams about several different players. The Perron / Columbus connection is just one we've been told about. There's likely dozens of other conversations which have taken place over the past few days and weeks that we'll never have a chance to discuss because the news is kept private.  With that being said, let's look at the actual report. As with any trade talk, information is limited. We know Columbus has at least expresse...

With the 2013 NHL Draft in the books, meet newest Blues

ST. LOUIS, Mo. The St. Louis Blues entered the 2013 NHL Draft with six picks, an amount that tied the team's 2009 total for the fewest in the past three decades. Turns out, the Blues didn't even need that many. After sitting out the first round the Blues first-round pick went to Calgary as a condition of the trade that brought Jay Bouwmeester to St. Louis last season the...

Blues select Thomas Vannelli with 47th overall pick

The St. Louis Blues selected defenseman Thomas Vannelli with the 47th overall selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Vannelli, 18, split last season between Minnetonka of the Minnesota High School League and Team USA (U-18) of the United States Hockey League, leading Minnetonka defensemen with 31 points (eight goals, 23 assists) in 25 games while recording two points (one goal,...

Blues make four picks at 2013 NHL Draft

The St. Louis Blues walked away from the 2013 NHL Draft with four new prospects. The team entered the draft with six selections, but a trade with the Edmonton Oilers allowed them to move up in the second round while reducing their total number of picks to four.  Thomas Vannelli. William Carrier. Zach Pochiro. Santeri Saari. These four men are the newest faces within the St...

Report: Blue Jackets shopping Sergei Bobrovsky

Sergei Bobrovsky, the NHL's 2013 Vezina Trophy winner, might be on the trade block. According to Darren Dreger, Bobrovsky is being shopped by the Columbus Blue Jackets after contract talks hit a snag. It's believed Bobrovsky is looking for $6 million a year, though it's unclear how many years the goaltender is hoping for.  According to Aaron Portzline, Bobrovsky...

Columbus Blue Jackets First Round Recap

Photo courtesy of bluejackets.com By Tim Lucarelli (@tlucarelli) If there’s one thing that Jarmo Kekalainen has, it is a reputation for making smart decisions on draft day. And for an organization that has historically had very little success with first round choices, all eyes were on Kekalainen to see how he would make use of his three choices. Not surprising, the first choice...

Eklund: Tim Thomas Likely Headed to Columbus (e4)

There is some speculation out there now surrounding Tim Thomas to Philly, and while I have heard and believe the Flyers and Thomas could indeed be a fit...I am more hearing that if Thomas returns the most likely destination would be Columbus. Thomas has long standing ties with the current manangement group for the Blue Jackets and I have been told the Blue Jackets are looking...

Expect Unexpectedness for Columbus Blue Jackets at NHL Draft

The Columbus Blue Jackets, one of the ‘feel good’ stories of this lockout-shortened National Hockey League (NHL) will be one of the most intriguing teams to watch at this Sunday’s NHL Entry Draft.  As a result of trading former ‘face of the franchise’ player, Rick Nash to the New York Rangers as well as trading the disgruntled Jeff Carter to the Los Angeles Kings, along...

Glen Miller: Jackets Select Three Forwards in Round One

Surprisingly the Columbus Blue Jackets utilized all three of their first round draft selections as the trade market, expected by many to be bustling, has been relatively quiet. I'm no draft guru and watch very few draft prospects in person or on TV but here's a quick rundown of each of the three new Blue Jackets based on info gleaned from the Hockey's Future website,...

Blue Jackets Draft Recap

New Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen stepped into an almost ideal situation in Columbus in terms of putting an immediate stamp on the organization, as the Jackets were loaded up with three first round picks in a deep and talented draft class. While they certainly would have been willing to deal from that pick depth for an impact forward (Tyler Seguin's name apparently came up...

Glen Miller: Jackets With Plenty Of Options As Draft Nears

After their playoff near-miss and with a new GM chomping at the bit to use the club's valuable draft capital (three first-round draft choices) to improve the club the summer was shaping up to be the most important in Columbus Blue Jackets franchise history. A day before the annual entry draft in Newark, New Jersey, what Columbus may or may not do is still unclear. Even GM Jarmo...
