The New York Rangers likely will go into the Stanley Cup playoffs without winger Chris Kreider, who has suffered a hand injury and could miss more than a month, per TSN’s Bob McKenzie. Chris Kreider expected to be out of NYR lineup for extended period: at least a month, maybe much longer. Hand injury, possibly broken bone.— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) March 26, 2014 The Rangers have not confirmed the report, but they did announce that Kreider wouldn’t play in Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers. The 22-year-old forward was enjoying a successful sophomore season with 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) in 66 games for New York. His absence will certainly be felt in the Rangers’ lineup. The team ranks 18th in goals scored, has just one player with more than 20 goals (Rick Nash) and no one with more than 50 points. In addition to Kreider’s scoring production, the Rangers also will miss his physicality, power-play skill and speed. New York sits in second place in the Metrop...

Kreider out a month with hand injury

Sorry this is late folks. Per Bob McKenzie, Chris Kreider has a hand injury and will be out around a month. Kreider missed all of the third period and overtime against Phoenix on Monday night with the injury. The timing of the injury couldn’t come at worse time, as the Rangers are gearing up for a playoff run. This won’t affect their ability to make the playoffs, but it will...

Rangers’ McDonagh, Girardi give ‘D’ some scoring punch

The NHL has become a league in which offense no longer can be relegated to the forwards. Just ask Rangers coach Alain Vigneault, who didn’t even hesitate after Monday night’s comeback 4-3 overtime win over the Coyotes to make what now is a common declaration. “If you’re going to score in this league, you need your back end,” he said, just minutes after he got consecutive...

How About Some MickyDs With Your Playoffs? Ryan McDonagh, That Is

Ryan McDonagh (1 G, 2 A, 3 SOG, +3, 2 PIM) lead the way for the streaking Rangers scoring the game winner in OT. He also dished out two primary assists, ended up plus-3 and even threw in a couple PIM to make the game complete. I didn’t think he’d get there, but McDonagh is looking at breaking the 50-point/15 goal markers this season and that easily sits him among the league...

Syvret is Wolf Pack’s Veteran Power-play Anchor

By Bob Crawford Hartford Wolf Pack veteran defenseman Danny Syvret is the quarterback of a Wolf Pack power-play unit that was 0-for-17 in four games, and 1-for-31 in a span of seven games, going into Saturday night’s visit to Adirondack. The power play exploded in that contest, though, going 3-for-5 against a Phantom penalty kill that entered the game second overall in the league...

The Rangers came out a bit flat, but weathered the early storm from Philly before breaking through for a 1-0 lead at the end of the first. The Rangers settled after that, and started controlling...

Rangers blow past Flyers, widen gap for second in Metro

It seemed utterly puzzling that this, of all games, was supposed to be a playoff preview. Because in the midst of all the pomp and circumstance of a prime-time, nationally televised matchup, what happened Wednesday night at the Garden was anticlimactic. The Rangers bled the Flyers out for a 3-1 win, allowing the Blueshirts to stroll off to Western Canada for a four-game trip while...
