Apparently there is still a market for a 39-year-old goaltender coming off of a season off. When that goalie is a two-time Vezina winner who has a Stanley Cup and a Conn Smythe to his name, though, it’s likely somebody can get over that first part. ESPN’s Craig Custance reported Tuesday morning that there are teams interested in Tim Thomas and that the veteran will make a decision soon. Thomas, Custance reports, could make a decision as early as Tuesday. Thomas is reportedly in discussion with multiple teams, according to the report. Thomas hasn’t played since the 2011-12 season when he was in between the pipes for the Bruins, the only team he’s played for in his NHL career. Thomas then opted to take the (eventually lockout-shortened) 2013 season off, saying he needed a year to focus on things away from the game instead. His rights were eventually traded to the New York Islanders last season, and he became a free agent after the 2013 season. Thomas played 59 games in 2011-12 going 35-19-1 with a 2.36 goals against average and a .920 save percentage. He won the Vezina Trophy in 2009 and 2011 with the Bruins leading the B’s to their first Stanley Cup win in almost four decades in 2011. Tim Thomas closing in on a decision. Possibly today. Discussions continue with multiple teams.— Craig Custance (@CraigCustance) September 10, 2013 Filed under: Boston Bruins, Headlines, Mike Cole
