Hockey players make peanuts compared to the all-stars of the NBA, MLB and NFL, but that certainly doesn’t mean there aren’t a handful of high-rollers skating at an arena near you. For every superstar that’s earning his multimillions, there are about two or three ripping their owner off, for lack of a better term. Baseball has its Alex Rodriguezs and Barry Zitos while the NBA has its Stephon Marburys and Gilbert Arenas’s. The NHL, while not as severe as its NBA and MLB brothers, has posted up some terrible deals that make even JaMarcus Russell cringe. The Islanders seem to lead the pack in terms of worst contracts, having both Rick DiPietro and Alexei Yashin pretty high on the list. While the majority of players on this list do, indeed, deserve a nice deal, it’s obvious that the owners went a little overboard with their offers — and are stuck paying for it in more ways than one for years and years to come. ‘Tuukka Time’ Strikes Again for Bruins as Islanders Try Rusty Rick DiPietro in Potentially Lopsided Matchup (Video)

Tuukka Rask has been stellar between the pipes for the Bruins so far, so coach Claude Julien appears ready to ride his goalie’s hot streak. Rask will start his fourth straight game to start the season on Friday night, with Rick DiPietro getting the nod for the Islanders for his first start since 2011. It would appear to be a matchup slanted in the Bruins’ favor, but DiPietro...

Keys to the Game Vs. Islanders

The Bruins come back home from New York city to go head to head with the New York Islanders. The Islanders are 2-1 losing the season opener to the New Jersey Devils. The Islanders beat then beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 and then beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-4. The Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro hasn't played yet this season. DiPietro, who has 9 years left on his 67.5 million...

Milan Lucic Drops Matt Carkner With Right To The Chin

Milan Lucic and the Islanders’ Matt Carkner squared up in the first period of Friday’s B’s-Isles game and Lucic got the best of Carkner in the short bout, dropping him with a solid right to the chin. Not the greatest fight ever, but a solid piece of handiwork by Looch. PS- If you want to hear the Jack Edwards call of the fight, you can do so here. He exclaims that Lucic won...

Islanders 7, Maple Leafs 4

TORONTO -- Michael Grabner and Matt Moulson scored two goals each as the New York Islanders came back to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-4 Thursday before a crowd of 19,125 at Air Canada Centre. Keith Aucoin, Mark Streit and Brad Boyes also scored for the Islanders, who tallied four goals in the third period. Carl Gunnarsson, Mikhail Grabovski, Nazem Kadri and Matt Frattin scored...

Islanders-Maple Leafs Preview

Lackluster efforts in their early road games over the past three seasons have helped contribute to the New York Islanders' lengthy playoff drought. With an abbreviated schedule, the Islanders know it's even more important to have better road performances to start this season, beginning with a five-game trip that starts Thursday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. New...

Islanders' four-goal third period downs Maple Leafs

TORONTO -- New York Islanders coach Jack Capuano gave the Toronto Maple Leafs credit for their fast start in racing to a 3-1 lead after the first period on Thursday night. "I just thought they executed much better. I thought they got in on the forecheck much harder and I think they executed their breakouts much better than we did in the first and they activated real well,...

Islanders Come to Town: Is the Power Play Improving?

Ok, so I am obsessed with Dougie Hamilton. I truly believe he is going to be a difference maker for this team's power play and defense. Even though he is just 19 years old he has already helped on both ends. On Wednesday against the Rangers Dougie made a few great checks to save scoring opportunities and ended the dreadful 0-11 power play when he blasted a puck from within...

New York Islanders Face Tough Test With Early Season Road trip

Photo courtesy of Bruce Bennett / Getty Images By Christian Arnold (CA_NYHockey) Road trips are never easy for any team. Playing five games on the road over eight days makes it a bit more challenging, but that’s what the New York Islanders face starting tonight in Toronto against the Maple Leafs. The team will quickly hop on a flight to Boston right after the game for a contest...

Dion Phaneuf blast John Tavares from behind.

Not a good hit by Maple Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneauf on Islanders forward John Tavares. I am also shocked that there was no penalty on the play as the referee was standing where he could see the play.

Bruins take down the Islanders 4-2

Milan throws down with Matt Carkner  The Bruins dominated the third period and pulled off the come from behind win on Friday night at the Garden. The B’s improve to 3-0-1 on the season. Shawn Thornton got the B’s on the board early picking up a rebound from a Hamilton shot and putting it in the back of the net. A minute after the Bruins got on the board Matt Carkner felt...

Patience Required

Despite leading the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in scoring for the first half of the AHL season, Islander prospect Nino Niederreiter wasn't invited to the team's training camp two weeks ago.   Kevin Schultz suspects Isles general manager Garth Snow may not have spoken with Niederreiter about why he was snubbed, prompting the Swiss forward to request a trade: If I’m a...

Bruins-Islanders Live: B’s Return Home to Finish Season’s First Week Against Islanders

8 a.m.: The Bruins will wrap up their crazy first week on Friday night at the Garden, but before they can get a couple of days off for the weekend, they have a date with the New York Islanders. The Isles come to Boston for the second half of a back-to-back after starting their road trip in Toronto on Thursday night. New York took it to the Maple Leafs on Thursday night, pasting them...

Game 4 Preview: Islanders -- Rask slated for fourth start

The Bruins return to the Garden after their brief visit to New York. Against the Rangers the defense, well, looked like this: We expect that to not happen again tonight against the NY Islanders. A Claude Julien team just doesn't have long stretches of awful defense like that. Expect tonight's defense to be a lot more like this: The Islanders are currently...
