Found July 02, 2012 on Buffalo Wins:
The Buffalo Sabres mission to get tougher took another step forward this evening when they acquired Adam Pardy and Steve Ott from the Dallas Stars for Derek Roy. After opening free agency with John Scott, Darcy Regier made a major decision in parting with Derek Roy, part of the post-Drury core. Not only does Roy’s departure rid the Sabres of one of their undersized forwards, it rids them of a player whose opinion of the coaching staff and organization seemed to have soured. Ott is obviously the gem of the trade for Buffalo. He is a gritty center who will fit Lindy Ruff’s system beautifully. Ott hovers above the 50% rate in the faceoff circle, likes to hit and once got in Peter Laviolette’s face. What’s not to like? Whether or not the Sabres win this trade is debatable. They lose a talented, second line center to pick up a grinder and a fringe defenseman. That isn’t an ideal situation for a team who went through long scoring droughts last season. However, for a locker room wid...

Buffalo Sabres add John Scott, Steve Ott

We now take you live to Days of Y'Orr GM Patrice Purrgeron's press conference in progress..... ...and the North East Division is changing. Brian Burke continues to refuse to change his strategy and make the Maple Leafs a playoff worthy team. The Ottawa Senators are putting all their faith in a defenseman who is on the ice for just as many points as he scores. The Montreal...

Steve Ott, John Scott Have Sabres Loaded for Bear As Rivalry with Bruins Could Reach New Heights

Last season, the Buffalo Sabres had no answer when Bruins forward Milan Lucic bowled over Sabres netminder Ryan Miller at the Garden on Nov. 12. The Sabres were roundly condemned throughout the hockey world for their lack of response in defense of their goalie, who was sidelined for several weeks while the team fell into a lengthy tailspin that kept them out of a playoff spot. On...

Sabres land Ott, Pardy in trade

The Buffalo Sabres have acquired forward Steve Ott and defenseman Adam Pardy from the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Derek Roy. Sabres general manager Darcy Regier announced the trade Monday. Ott had 11 goals and 28 assists in 74 games with the Stars last season. The 25th overall pick in the 2000 entry draft, Ott has 85 goals and 135 assists in 566 career games. Pardy spent...

Q&A about Steve Ott

You know how we do it here at whenever a new guy shows up. We call someone from the brotherhood of Bloguin to dish the dirt. So, we are joined by the boys over at Stars of Big D to talk about Steve Ott and some D-man. Let's get to the questions! What kind of player are the Sabres getting in Ott? 1) Ott is about as passionate as guy as you'll find in the league....

Northeast Division Trying to Match Bruins’ Toughness

John Scott is not the only fighter who has been signed by a Northeast Division team. Apparently the rest of the Northeast Division is tired of being pushed around by the Boston Bruins because they have been signing fighters nonstop since free agency opened on July first.  We all know the Bruins do not need help in the toughness category, but for...

Sabres Continue Makeover By Adding Ott, Pardy

After eight years, Derek Roy is done in Buffalo photo by Getty Images It was getting awfully boring. While the world was waiting and praying for a decision from Zach Parise on yet another uneventful day in the world of NHL free agency, the Sabres and Dallas Stars decided to shake things up. Buffalo sent oft-scrutinized center Derek Roy packing to “Big D” in exchange for gritty...

Trading For Ott

from Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News, My first thought after the trade was completed Monday evening wasn’t about who was leaving but who was coming. Derek Roy’s Buffalo career was finished after last season, the minute he had the audacity to mouth off about Sabres coach Lindy Ruff. Speaking against the organization in any way, shape or form is grounds for dismissal. Darcy...

Steve Ott traded to Buffalo for Derek Roy

When a player is rumored to be on the trading block for as long as Steve Ott has, there’s only two possible outcomes – they either fizzle out like Jose Canseco’s sex life, or they come to fruition. In Ott’s case, it’s the latter. The Stars have been looking for a top six scoring forward [...]

Trading Roy signals new era for Sabres

The makeover of the Buffalo Sabres has begun with a splash. An established scorer is out. A feisty player with desire is in. The Sabres made an early summer blockbuster trade July 2, dealing three-time team scoring leader Derek Roy to Dallas for left wing Steve Ott and defenseman Adam Pardy. "More than anything else we needed to move the balance of skill versus the physical...

Dallas gets Roy in trade with Sabres

The Dallas Stars acquired center Derek Roy from the Buffalo Sabres on Monday in a trade that sent forward Steve Ott and defenseman Adam Pardy to Buffalo. Roy, 29, had 17 goals and 27 assists in 80 games for Buffalo in 2011-12. "Derek Roy is a legitimate top two line center, and has been productive throughout his career," Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk said in...

Stars Acquire Derek Roy; Sabres Get Steve Ott

In the final year of a six-year contract, Roy will make $5.5 million with a salary cap hit of $4 million. — Mike Heika (@MikeHeika) July 2, 2012   … VERY interesting trade here. I really like this deal for both sides.

Q&A On Newest Dallas Star Derek Roy

1) What are the strengths and weakness in Roy? Is he more suited as a number 1 or 2 center? Roy is a #2 center. Period. Don't let anyone else tell you other wise. Roy is a gifted playmaker. He can See the ice well and can rack up impressive point totals. Problem is he tended to tune out the coach and tries too hard to do everything himself. He can be a lazy turnover machine...
