On Tuesday night, the New Jersey Devils took game 2 to even the NHL Semifinals round to one game a piece.  With the series now tied 1-1, the Flyers head to New Jersey for game 3.  The Flyers played a great second, third and overtime periods in game 1, but game two was a whole other story.  The Flyers came out hot, then became ice cold in the second and third period.  Tuesday was just a bump in the road, and after game 2,  Danny Briere put his take on the game:
"I think they showed more desperation than we did all night. It shows in the box score. The last two periods, even though we were up 1-0, we didn't deserve it. If it wasn't for [Ilya Bryzgalov], we didn't deserve to be up after two periods."
Game 3 should be a very exciting game to watch, and with the series now down to the best of 5, here is what you need to look for:
  • Three Periods- On Tuesday's preview of game 2, I said that both clubs would play a full 60 minutes...I could not have been more wrong.  Tonight, I think/hope the Flyers play a full 60 minutes.
  • Nasty Stuff- Going into the Pittsburgh series, the Flyers and Penguins absolutely HATED each other from the week before, the Devils are a different scenario.  In game one, there was physical play, but no real playoff hatred.  Game 2, the scrums around the net and the jabbering after every whistle picked up.  Tonight, I think these two clubs renew their hate for each other.
  • Claude Giroux- Giroux was basically shutdown on Tuesday night, but great players overcome this.  When you are a star player, teams adjust to you, but the great players find a way to put up points.
  • Wayne Simmonds- Simmer hasn't had the best playoffs, but he is a key role to this lineup.  He battles hard until the whistle blows, and then usually chirps at the opposition.  When Simmonds gets to play a gritty game is when he is at his best.  Tonight the hatred between these two teams will show, and Simmonds will thrive on it.
  • Goaltenders- In game 2, Iyla Bryzgalov's second period performance was unreal, and the Flyers wasted a valiant effort from their netminder.  Brodeur also played a pretty solid game 2, when he was actually pressured.  I think in game 3, the goaltenders put on a show.
Game 3 is at 7:30 on the NBC Sports Network, and 94.1 WIP.

Bryz Not To Blame for Flyers Poor Play in Game 2

The Philadelphia Flyers were out hustled in their 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. They were out shot, out shone and out hustled. Aside from the first 10-15 minutes of the game, the Flyers were a disaster. Some fans have turned to Ilya Bryzgalov as the scapegoat for the loss. My first question is what game were these people watching? If not for Ilya Bryzgalov, the...
