Free agent forward Shane Doan has already concluded visits with the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers, but his agent says that he is not quite done visiting teams while he continues to gather information regarding the pending sale of his Phoenix Coyotes.

It appears as if you can add the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins to the list of teams expressing an interest in Doan, as it is very likely the 35-year-old forward will meet with at least a couple of more teams while he awaits the status of the only franchise he has played for in Phoenix.

Doan has stated that his No. 1 priority has always been to remain with the Coyotes. He has said that while it is clearly not a bargaining tactic, Doan is happy in Phoenix and would love to finish out his career in the desert with the franchise he has called home or all 16 years of his illustrious NHL career. He has 318 goals and 470 assists over that span, all with the Coyotes.

Doan’s agent, Shane Bross, said that his client “is going to visit a couple of more teams,” adding that “I’m pretty sure Pittsburgh will be one of them. He is interested in the Penguins.” Reportedly, Pittsburgh has already made an offer to Doan, hoping that he can step in for the recently traded Jordan Staal, who the Penguins dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Bross also said that just because Doan visited the Rangers and Flyers first, that we should not read anything into that as a possible preference for Doan would like to play if things do not work out in Phoenix. Doan was already in New York for a collective bargaining agreement meeting when he met with the Rangers, and the Flyers made sense next due to location and proximity.

Sounds like a good agent to me. Bross is telling teams that Doan may be available to any team in the league if the unsettled ownership situation with the Coyotes causes the Phoenix captain to look elsewhere going forward. What that ultimately means is that any team interested in signing Doan may want to schedule a meeting or submit an offer, as Doan may wind up being available to the highest bidder with the best chance of competing for a Stanley Cup championship throughout the rest of Doan’s career.

Pittsburgh Penguins Will Host Shane Doan

Although the Penguins probably will not be able to get him, it looks like Shane Doan will at least come to Pittsburgh and have the discussion. Not to mention, have a tour of the city and the team environment. The New Building won’t hurt either. That said, Shane wants to be in Phoenix, and Phoenix [...] [[ This is a content summary only.
