Nightmare on Helm Street:
Shane Doan is both a bastard and a player I've wanted on the Wings for a while. He's got that toughness, grit and goal scoring talents that we haven't had up front for a while. Since Shanny actually (though certainly not at the same level.) He wears his heart on his sleeve and while occasionally has a dirty hit, isn't a dirty player. Well, it's looking like he's going to the open market on July 1st and I think the Wings should make a play for him. Helene St. James agrees with me (I started this damn article yesterday and shoulda finished it before she jumped on the bandwagon.)
Shane Doan, a Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes lifer, is, in all likelihood, going to be available when free agency opens Sunday -- and that will get the attention of numerous NHL teams, including the Red Wings.
Doan is known around the league for his leadership and desire to win. He has captained the Coyotes since 2003-04 and falls into the classic mold of someone who leads by ex...
BEST OF MAXIM
Though we suggested Shane Doan as a possible free agent target for the Rangers, no one really believed the team had a shot at signing him.
That’s because the consensus for months, even years, was that Doan was a life-long Coyote, solely loyal to the Phoenix/Winnipeg squad that originally drafted him back in 1995.
But in a surprising turn of events, Phoenix GM Don Maloney admitted...
Welcome to the Hotstove! As always, I'm your host, Travis Yost.
News coming out of Phoenix, Arizona has been a bit trying -- ever for the most ardent Coyotes fan. Locked once again in litigation with the Goldwater Institute over an arena lease deal, optimism concerning the future of the hockey organization remains guarded.
To compound the issue, longtime captain Shane Doan...
from Neil Greenberg of Capitals Insider, For starters, Shane Doan of the Coyotes should get a long, hard look. One of the few true top-six forwards available as an unrestricted free agent, Doan is a 16-year NHL veteran who has scored 20 or more goals in 11 of the last 12 seasons. Last year, the Coyotes captain had 50 points in 79 games, with nine more in 16 playoff games….
I'm not going to lie about it. I'm an unabashed Shane Doan fan. Always have been. Always will be. The guy is the embodiment of all the things you want to see in a great hockey player: he plays an honest game, works his ass off is practice and in games, is a leader of men, is as tough as leather, will drop his gloves to defend his family members, keeps himself in impeccable...
After the NHLPA closed their meetings in Chicago on Wednesday, Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews joked with the media that he “lobbied” for could-be-former Coyotes captain Shane Doan to sign with the Hawks when he becomes an unrestricted free agent on … Continue reading →
Since Rob has let me blog for his site I’ve tried my best to sort of stay away from the really big name players, you know, the marquee guys. And while he hasn’t been the definition of a superstar I thought it would be appropriate to make today’s UFA of the Day Shane Doan.
Name: Shane Doan

Why the Canucks might want him: Not known for his end...
The Phoenix Coyotes have re-signed center Andy Miele to a one-year, two-way contract.
Financial terms were not released Friday.
The 5-foot-9 Miele had 16 goals and 38 assists in his first professional season for Phoenix's AHL affiliate in Portland, Maine. His 54 points led the Pirates last year.
Miele made his NHL debut with Phoenix last Oct. 23 at Anaheim and played in seven...
While most NHL franchises are zeroing in on the big-name free agents that will go on the market July 1, a familiar game plan is taking shape in the Coyotes front office.
"Well continue to look for value, Phoenix general manager Don Maloney said with a hint of resignation. Its simply a fact of the franchise and our finances.
"A year from now, when (prospective owner...

Once you get beyond Ryan Suter and Justin Schultz, who are the most sought-after unrestricted free agent defencemen?

A few interesting tidbits out there in rumor land as we edge closer to July 1st and look for GM Brian Burke to reshape his club more to the aggressive style of coach Randy Carlyle.
Former Toronto Assistant GM Bill Watters reported via Twitter that the Leafs will likely show great interest in unrestricted free agent wingers Brandon Prust and Shane Doan come July 1.
The 28 year...
