There was an unlikely sight in the first period of the Winnipeg Jets' game at the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night: The Jets' Chris Thorburn, he of the 28 goals and 486 penalty minutes in 395 career games, attempting a penalty shot that was saved by Tuukka Rask. The second period yielded an even more unlikely sight, bordering on the unconceivable. Shawn Thornton of the Boston Bruins was hooked on a breakaway by Tim Stapleton. On the subsequent penalty shot, Thornton — he of the 28 goals and 685 penalty minutes in 407 games — beat Ondrej Pavelec with a beauty of a move: Do not adjust your monitors, that was Shawn Thornton with the terrific leg dangle and toe-drag move on the penalty shot goal. Don't worry, he was back to being Shawn Thornton later in the period with his old teammate Mark Stuart.

Ain't No Party Like a Shawn Thornton Party. BRUINS WIN.

Do we consider this a "bounce back" game? We mean, the Bruins were the overall better team against Vancouver. It is just hard to crack turtle shells. This game wasn't pretty to start. The Bruins overheard Jets fans in the stands talking about the early 90s battles against the Bruins and the Bruins were confused because they played the Thrashers last year. Once...

Shawn Thornton Marks Memorable Night at Garden With First Penalty Shot, Bout With Old Buddy Mark Stuart

BOSTON -- Shawn Thornton wrapped a career's worth of memorable moments into a single period. In a span of seven minutes and 12 seconds, the Bruins tough guy found himself sitting in the box on a phantom check to the head penalty, breaking in alone for a scoring chance coming out of the box, then converting a shorthanded penalty shot, followed by a bout against one of his closest...

Dale Weise Offers Multiple Excuses for Embarrassingly Refusing to Fight Shawn Thornton

Saturday was a sad day for hockey. For those of you who watched the highly anticipated Bruins-Canucks matchup in Boston, you can't help but agree. No, I'm not talking about some hip check; I'm referring to the Habs-like act pulled by Dale Weise -- a professional hockey player, who stands in at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds -- jawing at an opponent and then skating away to hide...

Shawn Thornton Surprises Writer Tony Gallagher on Live TV, Dominates Him in Debate on Fighting

When you score on your first-ever penalty shot and engage in yet another spirited bout in front of the home crowd, the best way to cap off your night is to engage in a verbal beatdown of a writer who doesn't really know what he's talking about. Just your standard Tuesday night for Shawn Thornton. The Bruins' tough guy was on the Comcast SportsNet New England set after...
