Pro Sports Daily:
The road to recovery went through the Edmonton Oilers morning skate on Thursday.
Although not ready to play against the Montreal Canadiens Denis Grebeshkov Corey Potter Sam Gagner and Jesse Joensuu were all on the ice for the optional on-ice workout.
Of the four only Joensuu has played a regular-season game this year and he hopes to be back in the lineup Saturday when the Oilers travel to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“I feel very good compared to a few days ago I like the progress” said Joensuu who tweaked his oblique area toward the end of the preseason.
“I pulled something shooting a puck. I never had this before but I felt a tweak. I played the Winnipeg game and then I was fine then I hurt it again in a no-contact situation in practice before Vancouver.”
Joensuu made a solid impact with the Oilers early on providing the big-body presence they were looking for.
He scored a goal in the season opener against the Jets.
“I’ll be really grateful if I can stay healthy” Joensu...

Nail Yakupov is in a commercial for Warrior where he promotes the company's new tagline: Nailed It. In the short spot Yakupov successfully performs different actions and follows it up by saying "Nailed it." He knocks a bottle off the roof of a net, tosses some trash into a garbage can and walks by some attractive ladies. Oh the innuendo!
Edgy. At least this...
During this period of his career Nail Yakupov seems like one of those all-or-nothing goal scorers.* So far it’s been all-nothing so Edmonton Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins decided to scratch him for Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
One can understand why Eakins benched the 20-year-old. He doesn’t have a goal or an assist in four games so far this season and...
Devan Dubnyk was hoping it would be his redemption game.
The Edmonton Oilers goaltender got the start Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens after watching Jason LaBarbera get the call in the previous encounter.
Heading into the contest Dubnyk had conceded 10 goals in his two previous starts getting the hook last Saturday in Vancouver against the Canucks.
“I’ve always been...
Like Mr. Vain the character the 1990s dance band Culture Beat sang about the Oilers know what they want and they want it now.
In their own end what they want is the puck and they have an aggressive plan to take it away from their opponent exit the zone with a purpose and go on the attack at warp speed.
It’s a system that should play to the strengths of the swift skilled Oilers...
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is a bobblehead.
It’s not bad enough that he has a couple of cartoon-type nicknames in Hoppy and The Nuge now his coach has gone and called him a bobblehead.
“The thing I like about Nuge is that he’s a bobblehead” said Dallas Eakins after practice Wednesday to prepare for tonight’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.
“I ask him...
The Edmonton Oilers a mere 1-3 in the early season standings after dropping a 4-1 decision to the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday now have to find their way on a six-game road trip that starts in Toronto on Saturday against the Maple Leafs and wraps up Oct. 22 in Montreal.
It won’t be an easy task. Not with six games in 11 days and with opponents like the quick starting New York...
Nail Yakupov of the Edmonton Oilers is the subject of rampant trade rumors for the 2013-2014 NHL season. The first overall 2012 draft pick performed well last season, scoring the most goals for rookies. He was also tied with Jonathan Huberdeau for the most points as a rookie, yet he was not nominated as a top 3 Calder Trophy candidate.
Yakupov has struggled in the early going of this
Devan Dubnyk is getting a chance to totally redeem himself.
The Edmonton Oilers goaltender will get the call against the Montreal Canadiens Thursday (7:30 p.m.) at Rexall Place.
Dubnyk sat out Monday’s victory over the New Jersey Devils after struggling in his first two games of the season.
“I think he just has to settle down a little bit” said Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins...
