I know nobody knows Where it comes and where it goes I know it’s everybody’s sin You got to lose to know how to win. -Aerosmith   The season came down to a lone goal. And, unfortunately, that goal was not in favour of Pittsburgh. After battling through injuries and lineup changes and first and second round opponents whom most refused to give credit to, the Penguins fell to the Boston Bruins by a score of 1 to 0, being swept from the Stanley Cup Playoff Eastern Conference Final.   Neither team gave up much room in the first, the only things exchanged being a couple of penalties. Both Tomas Vokoun and Tuuka Rask would come up with a couple big saves on the pucks that did find their way toward their respective nets. The period would mark the first time in the series that the Penguins didn’t trail after twenty. At the first horn, Boston held a slight advantage in shots, 11 to 9, with the scoreboard remaining blank.   The second period mimicked the first with only penalties being exchanged. Once again, both goaltenders would put on show for the shots the teams did pull off, but after forty, the score board remained the same, this time Pittsburgh outshooting the Bruins 11 to 6.   The entire season came down to the third period and with just give minutes off the clock, it was Adam McQuaid notching Boston’s first goal and giving them the lead. McQuaid’s slapshot would go off of the stick of a Penguins defender and over Vokoun’s shoulder, into the net, setting off the goal lights. All it took was that one. Try as they might, the Penguins couldn’t tie it up, much to the chagrin of team and fans alike. And that folks, was the season.   Kris Letang led all skaters with 27:45 of ice time while Paul Martin followed with 25:27.  Kris Letang notched 6 shots on goal while James Neal had 4. Tomas Vokoun faced 24 shots while Tuuka Rask faced 24.   As always, it has been a pleasure writing for you all this past season. In a sport where we were lucky enough to have a season, it has been full of its ups and downs. Whatever your thoughts are in this moment, remember that win or lose, the contract that binds us is lifelong – a story of respect passed through generations as duty and privilege.  It was a great day for hockey. See you all in September.
