Dallas could never really get going in this game and it was apparent from puck drop to final whistle. Even though the Stars scored in the first period and took a 1-0 lead well into the second, it just never looked comfortable for Dallas. The Stars weren't winning the puck battles that they did during the Capitals game and were constantly turning over the puck in their own zone. The passing for Dallas wasn't crisp because of the pressure that the Pens put on them. First passes out of the zone were getting picked off  and if it weren't for Kari Lehtonen, the Pens would have scored a few more goals. It seemed like possession of the puck was always in the Pens favor. Despite all ...

Jamie Benn emerging into an NHL star

There were a lot of people who hadn't even heard of Jamie Benn last season. In fact, I picked him up from the free agent list for my fantasy team and since then, Benn has been one of my best players. This year I drafted the young forward in the 8th round at 111th overall in my one year league. The Stars center had 41 points in his first season in the NHL during 2009-10. Then last...

PUCKFATHER: What Do You Know, Sidney Crosby is Human After All

Dallas Stars Embarrass the Washington Capitals

Last Tuesday evening, the Dallas Stars were not only the better team; they were the only team on the ice that was playing hockey at a high level.  There a number of words that come to mind when trying to describe the Capitals’ performance: lackluster, sloppy, and half-hearted effort will do for a start. In what has become all too typical for the Caps, they didn’t play a full...

Penguins-Hurricanes Preview

James Neal is a major reason why the Pittsburgh Penguins are atop the Eastern Conference despite Sidney Crosby's absence. Visiting the struggling Carolina Hurricanes isn't likely to change that, either. Neal looks to continue his impressive start to the season and help the Penguins hand the Hurricanes a fifth straight loss Saturday night. Crosby is trying to return from...
