Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold is set to defend his title against Tim Kennedy on July 14th. Rockhold (9-1) captured the title when he defeated Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in a five round battle in September 2011. He would successfully defend the title for the first time in January when he recorded a first round technical knockout of UFC veteran Keith Jardine. Kennedy (14-3) has won five of his last six bouts to establish himself as a top middleweight contender. He has recorded notable wins over Robbie Lawler, Melvin Manhoef and Trevor Prangley.
Also on tap for the event is the return of Nate Marquardt who takes on undefeated Tyron Woodley for the vacant welterweight title.
Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy takes place from the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon. The action will be televised live on Showtime beginning at 10:00pm ET.
Strikeforce held a media conference call on Tuesday to hype up Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy which is set to invade the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Oregon on July 14.
On the call was Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, as well as main card fighters Luke Rockhold, Tim Kennedy, Tyron Woodley and Nate Marquardt.
