With less than 24 hours left before the trade deadline comes and goes, here are a handful of teams to keep an eye on…

Boston Bruins
The defending champs are not the same team as they were two months ago. They haven’t been the same since Nathan Horton went down to another concussion on Jan. 22 (team is 6-7-1 since), but their inconsistencies started before then. GM Peter Chiarelli is said to be looking forward another forward, and perhaps a defenseman, without parting with any roster players. Look for the B’s to do something…

Chicago Blackhawks
Earlier this month we declared Stan Bowman as the GM under the most pressure at the deadline. He has yet to make a move and the Blackhawks still have some needs. Ideally, Bowman would like to grab a top-nine forward and a defenseman, but he will have competition. Before they dropped the puck in Anaheim tonight, the sixth-seeded ‘Hawks were closer to ninth place than fifth.

Nashville Predators
Predators GM David Poile may be in the best position to make a splash. They have infinite cap space, multiple assets and a desire to acquire a top-six forward. Poile has been aggressive in trying to find a forward, and, sure enough, has made an offer to Columbus for Rick Nash. So if they are willing to pay the price to get Nash, they are open to trading for just about anybody, right?

New York Rangers
Speaking of Nash, it appears the Rangers have pulled out of the running for the time being – and for good reason. Why blow up a team that is first in the conference, head above shoulders everyone else? Still, GM Glen Sather would like to add a forward – just without having to part with key youngsters. We know Sather is usually active at the deadline.

San Jose Sharks
Another GM that seems to always be active at this time of year is San Jose’s Doug Wilson. The Sharks, who have won twice on their current nine-game road trip, seem stale right now. They also have the red-hot Coyotes to worry about. Wilson isn’t afraid to pull the trigger on a big trade (Nash?) and the window seems to be closing on Team Teal’s title hopes.

Toronto Maple Leafs
It will be interesting to see what GM Brian Burke does tonight or tomorrow. His team is 1-7-1 in its last nine games, falling three points out of a playoff spot. How desperate are the Leafs to snap the playoff drought this season? Will Burke bring in some goaltending help? Will UFA-to-be Mikhail Grabovski be dealt? There are a lot of questions surrounding Burke and the Leafs.
