The past few weeks since the firing of Glen Gulutzan have led to Stars fans being curious about who will be the next head coach. Some speculated Alain Vigneault; some were hoping that Tippett would return to Dallas. My personal choice was John Tortorella, but several fans will be ecstatic to know that he did not end up becoming the new head coach of the Dallas Stars. Flashback to 1999 During the Stanley Cup Finals, the Dallas Stars scored in triple overtime of Game Six against the Buffalo Sabres, giving the Dallas Stars’ organization their first Stanley Cup championship. The goal stands as one of the most controversial goals in NHL history in regards to the rules at that time. The Buffalo Sabres head coach at the time was Lindy Ruff. 14 years and one day later The Dallas Stars officially sign Lindy Ruff to be the new head coach of the Dallas Stars. Earlier announcements from Jim Nill state that the terms of the contract have been finalized between the two parties. A press conference will be held later today to publicly announce the hiring. What to expect from Ruff Dallas Stars’ new head coach, Lindy Ruff Lindy Ruff was a tough player (as seen by his PIMs), a trait that will be beneficial to the young, hardworking players of the Dallas Stars. Ruff also held the Sabres to a high standard as the head coach there since the 1997 season. Under his leadership, they reached the Stanley Cup once (only to lose to the Dallas Stars), as well as making the Eastern Conference Championships three other times. Ruff was fired from the Sabres at the end of this past season due to a failure to get past the first round of the playoffs since 2007. Ruff spoke about being hired by the Stars saying, “it was clear that all the right pieces are coming together to return this club to the upper-echelon of the NHL.” The Dallas Stars have a young crop of players, a new look, and new management. The Dallas Stars organization is hoping that Ruff’s experience at the NHL and international level will be the missing piece to the rebuilding of this franchise.  Aside from any ‘No Goal’ jokes that Lindy will receive, he has all of the tools available for success with the Dallas Stars.
