Found October 15, 2013 on Puck Drunk Love:
I can safely say I've never seen anything like it. I was sitting from my perch in the press box as Damien Brunner scored the first New Jersey Devil goal of the season during the club's home opener against the New York Islanders. The celebration started, and then all of a sudden, you heard the strangest noise. The Devil fans in Newark's Prudential Center were booing. I thought to myself, "okay, it's Brunner. Maybe they're chanting 'Bruuuuuuuu' since hockey fans are prone to that kind of thing." Seconds passed and you kept hearing the sound. As the play reset and the puck dropped, however, another chant started. "Change it back! Change it back! Change it back!" along with "Hey, you suck!"  New Jersey's fans were booing the removal of the goal song, making it sound like they were booing a goal. Like most lazy franchises, the Devils have spent a majority of their history celebrating goals scored with Gary Glitter's...

Devils' Ryane Clowe placed on injured reserve

Devils winger Ryane Clowe was placed on injured reserve today with a head injury retroactive to the Wiinnipeg game general manager Lou Lamoriello announced. The team will activate Mattias Tedenby. Clowe who has a history of concussions was hit in the head with an elbow during the third period of the team's 3-0 loss to Winnipeg on Sunday. He stayed in the game but later complained...

Todd Cordell: New Jersey Devils: Ryane Clowe Off To Shaky Start

Through six games, the New Jersey Devils are still winless. While the defense has been garnering a lot of the blame, and rightfully so, they're not the only players struggling. One reason the Devils have been losing a lot of games has been the production from Ryane Clowe, or lack thereof. I defended the Clowe contract in the summer on the basis of him being better this season...

Devils goaltenders understand early season split, but hoping for chance to get in a regular rhythm

Through the Devils’ first six games goaltenders Martin Brodeur and Cory Schneider have played three times apiece. That’s been mostly due to the Devils’ schedule which has already included two of the team’s league-high 22 sets of back-to-back games. Both goaltenders say they understand the way the schedule is set up and realize that it might stay a 50-50 split for a while...

Devils hoping effort translates into a win

The Devils were back at Prudential Center on Tuesday taking a brief respite from life on the road and still trying to find their way to their first victory of the season. They’ll practice at The Rock again this afternoon before flying to Ottawa for Thursday night’s game against the Senators for the last of their five consecutive games in Canada (and their sixth road game out...

Todd Cordell: New Jersey Devils Still Winless

You can follow Todd on Twitter @ToddCordell! Six games in to the 2013-14 NHL campaign, the New Jersey Devils have not yet won a hockey game. Not one. The Devils have four one goal losses, and were in it until the end against Winnipeg on Sunday. Though ultimately they found a way to lose despite Cory Schneider's best efforts to prevent that. Through six games the Devils...

Martin Brodeur in goal for Devils on Thursday

Martin Brodeur will start Thursday when the Devils play in Ottawa. Brodeur is 0-1-2 this year with a .878 save percentage and a 3.19 goals-against average.

Lamoriello: 'I believe in these players and this coaching staff'

Over the course of an 82-game season one six-game slump will not make or break a team. But if it comes at the start or at the very end of a season it tends to have a much greater impact. The Devils have lost their first six games (0-3-3) for the first time in club history and they may already be at a critical juncture of this young campaign. They rank 29th in the NHL with only the...
