Found January 06, 2012 on Nightmare on Helm Street:
Since news is so slow today I thought we could all take a look at one name that might not be on your prospect radar for the Detroit Red Wings in Mitchell Callahan. The Whittier California native was drafted by the Wings in the 6th round (180th overall) of the 2009 NHL entry draft. The 5’11″ and 175 lbs forward stepped into the pro ranks this season with Grand Rapids. The reason Callahan, who does not come from a hockey hotbed, and is undersized by most NHL standards is so intriguing is the fact that the Wings haven’t had a player of his mold for quite some time. He’s not an offensive juggernaut, though he’s very capable of potting a goal when needed. He does however have a knack for getting under the opponents skin. He is an agitator, and a very effective one at that. Um, wow. Red Wings VP Jimmy Devellano says he’d nix fighting

From the New York Times’ Jeff Z. Klein and Stu Hackel, Red Wings GM Jimmy Devellano is not exactly on the same page as Brian Burke regarding fighting: “I would abolish fighting, like today,” Devellano, the Red Wings’ senior vice president, said on a podcast for the New York cable network SNY. “I would eliminate it immediately. I can do without it. I don’t need it....

Red Wings-Maple Leafs Preview

Jimmy Howard's reliable play has made it easy for the Detroit Red Wings to keep starting him. Jonas Gustavsson is hoping to develop into that kind of goaltender for the Toronto Maple Leafs. While Gustavsson will try to earn another start, Howard will go for his 100th career victory and league-best 25th this season Saturday night at Air Canada Centre. Howard has started 30 of...

Putting the Funk into the Dunk

It's almost game time, baby.  When do you think the Lions and the Red Wings BOTH played on the same night in January?  It's been at least 13 years since that's happened.  I have my TiVo set to record both so I don't have to miss a minute of action on either game.  While the Honolulu blue is an unlikely sight, the movie poster madness of Josh Howard is a mainstay...
