Found April 21, 2013 on Hockey Fan Land:
For the first time since 2004, the Toronto Maple Leafs have made the playoffs. Yes. You heard me right. After beating the Ottawa Senators 4-1, the Toronto Maple Leafs have clinched a playoff spot. I became a hockey fan during the 2005-06 NHL season. The last time the Leafs made the playoffs was the 2003-04 season. I have never watched my favourite team in the playoffs. But on April 30th, I finally will. The drought is over.5:55 PM: I am sitting in the car listening to the Winnipeg Jets vs. New York Islanders shootout on the radio. If the Jets lose, this would mean that the Leafs would have the opportunity to clinch a playoff spot with a win tonight versus the Ottawa Senators. John Tavares shoots. Scores. Islanders win. The Leafs now have their chance. 7:00: The Leafs are about to face off with their biggest rivals... the Ottawa Senators. Puck drops. Toronto is being outshot and with 6:39 left in the period, they temporarily score, until it is waived off by the refs on a very controv...

Feel free to celebrate Toronto Maple Leafs fans. You're headed back to the playoffs for the first time in nine years.  This accomplishment might not sound like that big of a deal to fans accustomed to regular playoff runs, but for fans of the Maple Leafs this is truly an occasion worth getting excited over. Toronto's most recent playoff appearance was back during the...

Maple Leafs clinch playoff berth

James Reimer put in a monstrous effort with 49 saves and the Toronto Maple Leafs clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2004 with a 4-1 win over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night. James van Riemsdyk scored twice, and Nazem Kadri and Joffrey Lupul also had goals for the Maple Leafs, who needed to earn a point and get a little help from the New York Islanders to make...

Maple Leafs Make Playoffs

Nine of the sixteen playoff spots this season have been clinched.  The remainder will clinch over the next few days.  I think we have found the most unlikely playoff team based upon recent history.  The Toronto Maple Leafs have clinched their first playoff berth since 2004.  This is the first time they will appear in the playoffs since the adoption of the salary cap.  In part...

Phil Kessel Is the Highest American-Born Player Drafted by the Bruins in Team History

Phil Kessel was drafted No. 5 overall by the Bruins in 2005. The Madison, Wis., product scored 126 points during three seasons with the Bruins with 66 goals and 60 assists. His contributions on the ice may not be what he’ll be best known for historically in Boston, though. The B’s traded Kessel to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2009 and received a 2010 first-round pick, 2010 second...

Leafs (W)in

from Rosie DiManno of the Toronto Star, After the longest gestation period in history, followed by a week of sweat-inducing labour contractions and anxious floor-pacing, the Toronto Maple Leafs have finally delivered: A little bundle of joy called Playoffs. It took nine years rather than nine months. Go ahead, pass around the cigars. Cue the cowbells and air horns too...

Islanders beat Jets in shootout

John Tavares scored the winning goal in a shootout on Saturday to give the New York Islanders a 5-4 win over Winnipeg and put a dent in the Jets' playoff drive. Bryan Little tied the game for Winnipeg 4-4 at 17:59 of the third period, just seven seconds after Isles defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky was called for interference. A rebound sent the puck at Little's left skate and...

Islanders-Hurricanes Preview

It's been quite some time since the New York Islanders were battling for playoff position while facing non-contenders down the stretch, rather than it being the other way around. Now they're hoping to reverse their fortunes against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Islanders look to win their fourth straight while salvaging the final meeting of the season with host Carolina...
