Tim Thomas’ return to the ice hasn’t been the triumphant homecoming he was hoping for. After sitting out for the entirety of the 2012-2013 season, the former Bruins goaltender signed a one-year deal with the Florida Panthers. Three games into the season, however, and the goaltender has only played a full 60 minutes for his new team once. Giving up five goals on 28 shots during the second game of the year, Thomas was pulled early against the Blues, On Tuesday night, history was on track to repeat itself, but this time the man between the pipes was the one who made the call, skating off to the bench after what looked like an apparent injury. Thomas had given up two goals on the first five shots he faced in the first period of action, but on the second goal, the 39-year-old looked to injure himself. Thomas appeared to be having a hard time getting himself off of the ice and into position to block Braydon Coburn‘s shot, and after it whizzed past him, Thomas skated gingerly toward Florid...

Tim Thomas exits early again for Florida Panthers

Florida Panthers goalie Tim Thomas has lasted about as long as a teenager on prom night in two of his first three games since returning to the NHL after a one-year sabbatical. Thomas pulled himself from the game Tuesday night after allowing two goals to the previously winless Flyers in the first 7:21. The Panthers later said it was a slight groin pull that caused him to skate to...

Panthers goalie Tim Thomas injured in loss to Flyers

When General Manager Dale Tallon signed Tim Thomas a 39-year-old goalie who was playing Mr. Mom for the previous 17 months instead of hockey he had to know it was risky business. He's also been around long enough to know that coming into a sold-out hostile building of an 0-3 Flyers' squad that fired its coach the day before would be an even riskier proposition. Combine...

Video- Tim Thomas Out After Lower-Body Injury

The Panthers are saying lower-body injury and will not return.  Looks like it is a groin in this video. It is a goal replay, so you will have to keep your eye on Thomas.

Tim Thomas injury could delay matchup against Boston Bruins

Photo By Mark BucknerOn the calender hanging in my kitchen, Thursday October 17th has been circled in red magic marker since the Florida Panthers announced they had signed two-time Vezina trophy winner Tim Thomas to a one-year contract. Now, it looks like that forged doctor's note I got from a back-alley "doctor" in Lawrence to get out of work that day is completely...

Tim Thomas' groin injury not believed to be serious

As soon as Panthers goalie Tim Thomas felt a shooting pain in his left groin in the first period of Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Flyers he knew that his critics would have a field day about his age and comeback after taking a year off. Although Thomas 39 had to leave the game at 7:31 of the first he said the groin "certainly wasn't worse this morning than before I went...

Tim Thomas (groin) doesn’t think he’ll be out long

According to Florida Panthers head coach Kevin Dineen, Panthers goalie Tim Thomas may or may not be placed on injured reserve later today. If he were to go to the IR, it would mean he would be out of the lineup for at least a week. This stemming from the groin injury he suffered against the Flyers earlier this week. Per George Richards of the Miami Herald, the 39 year old Thomas...

Does effort or results matter more this time of year?

Can a 1-2 team have something to smile about as this season gets under way? For the Florida Panthers, the answer is yes and no. After a rousing come-from-behind behind win in Dallas opening night, the Blues kindly rewarded those efforts with a 7-0 shellacking in St. Louis. The Panthers looked so embarrassingly different against the Blues it was hard to figure out who this team is right now....

Flyers Coach Craig Berube Tells Reporter to “Get Lost”

Flyers new head coach Craig Berube will always tell you what’s on his mind. After Tuesday’s 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers, Berube’s press conference gave us a glimpse into what will surely be a quotable tenure. Mike Sielski of the Philadelphia Inquirer asked Berube if the team had any punishment planned to forward Jay Rosehill. Rosehill acquired a 4-minute minor early in...

First Thomas, then Backstrom, Nash and Hartnell

As Paul noted, Tim Thomas appeared to tweak his groin or some othe part of his "lower body" in the Florida Panthers' 2-1 loss to Philly on Tuesday, and while I was preparing to have my beard trimmed for the first time in six years, Pro Hockey Talk's Ryan Dadoun notes that Niklas Backstrom got dinged in the Wild's 3-2 loss to Nashville... [T]he Minnesota...

Flyers Rebound Against Panthers

The Flyers defeated the Florida Panthers 2-1 on Tuesday night giving new head coach Craig Berube the victory in his first game as head coach.  Berube was named head coach Monday after the team’s 0-3 start led to the firing of Peter Laviolette.  The victory allowed Philadelphia to avoid an 0-4 start for the first time in team history.  The Flyers were able to withstand a strong...
