In last year’s NHL playoffs, the second-seeded Boston Bruins were expected to easily dispatch the 7th-seeded Washington Capitals, a team that many felt was flimsy in its own end and untested in net.
The opposite proved to be true, however, as the plucky Capitals took the Bruins to seven games and wore them down in the series finale, capping off a dogged seven-game effort with a Joel Ward game-winner that Bruins fans won’t soon forget. The star of the 2011-2012 Capitals-Bruins series was Washington goaltender Braden Holtby, who rose from relative obscurity to start every single one of the Capitals’ games that postseason, posting a sub-two goals against average. Claude Julien said Sunday night that he had no problem with Zdeno Chara‘s fight, even if it may have cost the team a win. He stood by those sentiments on Monday as well.
The Bruins coach addressed the media following practice in Wilmington, and he continued to support Chara, who took 17 penalty minutes after fighting Alexei Emelin in the second period of Boston’s 4-3 loss to...
A physical contest between the Bruins and the Habs highlighted some lessons for the Bruins to take on the road with them
At the end of the game between the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday night, ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun tweeted this about the game:
Hell of a game in Boston tonight. B’s still class of the East for me buttalk about a statement win for the Habs.
You can’t win ‘em all, but you’d like to win as many as you can against a hated rival. The Bruins weren’t able to overcome the absence of Zdeno Chara in the third period of Sunday night’s loss to the Canadiens, allowing a one-goal lead to turn into a deficit while their captain sat in the sin bin.
In a game filled with chippy play from start to finish, Brad Marchand appeared...
The Bruins finally get another shot at the Washington Capitals. The last time the two teams played Tim Thomas was in net and Joel Ward got a game winning goal in OT.
Almost like a bad dream from long ago.
So far this season the Capitals are 8-11-1 and are having a dissapointing season after upsetting the Bruins in the playoffs. Part of the Capitals dissapoitninis the continue...
The Washington Capitals have struggled to kill off penalties this season. To say their penalty kill unit needs help would be a vast understatement. However, NESN must think Washington really, really has an awful PK unit.
As seen in their broadcast of the Boston Bruins - Washington Capitals game on Tuesday night, NESN ran a graphic comparing Boston's power play to Washington...
Watch this hit by Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin hit on Boston Bruins forward Chris Kelly. The Bruins score on the ensuing power play with a goal by Bruins rookie defenseman Dougie Hamilton. Even as a Bruins fan, I have to admit that was a bad call against Ovechkin.
Good fight between the Boston Bruins Milan Lucic and Montreal Canadians Brandon Prust. Prust was the NHL Fight leader with 20 fights last year.
This is what I like about the NHL, I like the fact that players are able to stick up for each other. Alexei Emelin hit Tyler Seguin at center ice with what I would consider a questionable and a dirty hit. Chara comes right over to him...
Montreal celebrates a goal during their victory last night
The Boston Bruins lost 4-3 to Montreal
last night at the Garden and only have themselves to blame.
After the game Coach called out the Canadiens for diving and
embellishing penalties and basically blamed the loss on that. He went on the
talk about the number of power plays that Montreal
has had and how they’re an...
12 p.m. ET: The Bruins had high hopes for the 2011-12 season after winning the Stanley Cup a season prior. Those high hopes were shot down early in last season’s playoffs, however, thanks to the Washington Captials.
The B’s get their first chance to exact a little bit of revenge on Tuesday night when they had to the nation’s capital to take on the Caps.
It’s the first meeting...
Braden Holtby stopped 35 shots and Mike Ribeiro had a goal and an assist and the Washington Capitals defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-0 on Saturday.
Matt Hendricks and Todd Brouwer, with his team-leading ninth goal of the season, also scored for Washington.
It was Holtby's third shutout of the season.
Winnipeg's Ondrej Pavelec made 18 saves for the Jets, who had a three-game...
