by Eli Epstein, TiqIQ Chicago has gotten all it bargained for from Detroit in the Western Conference semifinals. Heavily favored entering the series, the Blackhawks have been taken to a decisive Game 7 by the Red Wings. In the process, however, the Hawks have shown plenty of moxie, even if they haven’t been dominant from A to Z like some analysts expected them to be. The name that first comes to mind in Chicago is goaltender Corey Crawford, who’s allowed his team to climb back in the series after dropping Games 2, 3 and 4. Crawford, despite a few tricky moments this postseason, is still posting a 1.78 Goals Against Average and a .936 Save Percentage. Continue reading "TiqIQ Ticket Preview: Red Wings @ Blackhawks"

Frolik's penalty shot goal forces Game 7

The Detroit Red Wings already were in trouble in Game 6 before the refs decided to award Michael Frolik a penalty shot. Frolik then shoveled some dirt on the Wings’ grave, burying that penalty shot past Jimmy Howard. The Wings led 2-1 heading to the third period, only to see Chicago quickly erase that gap and then take the lead with a pair of goals. Frolik then blocked a Carlo...

Crawford, Howard’s playoff performances may have Olympic repercussions

In an ESPN Insider-only blog entry, Craig Custance suggests that the goaltender who wins Game 7 between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks tonight--Corey Crawford is Canadian, and Jimmy Howard's from upstate New York--will receive a significant boost to their portfolio in terms of attempting to earn a spot on their respective countries' 2014 Olympic teams. As Custance...

Red Wings sign Alexei Marchenko to three-year deal

Given that the Red Wings have signed defensemen Nick Jensen and will be bringing Ryan Sproul and Xavier Ouellet into the organization next fall, I'm not sure where Alexei Marchenko will fit on a Grand Rapids Griffins' blueline that will include Adam Almquist, Max Nicastro, probably Chad Billins and possibly an AHL veteran or two, but the Wings believe that Mattias Backman...

Brent Seabrook, Blackhawks Top Red Wings in Overtime After Apparent Game-Winner Is Waved Off (Video)

You never want the officials to determine the outcome of a game, and you especially don’t want to see it happen in Game 7 of a playoff series. That was almost the case Wednesday night in Chicago, when Niklas Hjalmarsson‘s goal that would have put the Blackhawks ahead with 1:47 to play in regulation was disallowed. Detroit’s Kyle Quincey had gotten tangled up with Chicago...

Red Wings find themselves in familiar territory

Its really not a surprise is it? After all, nothing ever comes easy for this edition of the Detroit Red Wings. Five weeks ago, Detroit had to string together four victories in the last week of the season just to make the playoffs. Two week laters, they faced elimination twice and had to win back-to-back games, including a Game 7 on the road against the number two-seed, Anaheim...

Henrik Zetterberg and Jonathan Toews (giff)

s/t to Jack who posted this gif in the comments of another post. So, do you think that the refs are not calling the obstruction in this series? This is pre-lockout officiating in the NHL. The calls the officials have let go have been pretty obvious. Zetterberg has been in Toews hockey pants all series long.

WATCH Seabrook crush choking Red Wings with OT winner

Brent Seabrook (courtesy of Down 3-1 in a best of 7 series against the Detroit Red Wings, many people were ready to count the Chicago Blackhawks out. Brent Seabrook. After tying the series at three games a piece, the Blackhawks and Red Wings went to a decisive Game 7 and needed more than 60 minutes to determine a winner. Like two titans in a boxing...

The Red Wings have lost Valtteri Filppula's services thanks to a strange exchange with Andrew Shaw at the bench, after Shaw went after Henrik Zetterberg. Quoth Pierre McGuire: "Good Non Call." Slew foot?

Funny billboard appears in Chicago after Blackhawks beat Red Wings

Daily Rundown: Blackhawks Top Wings in OT to Advance

After trailing three games to one in the Western Conference Semifinals, the Chicago Blackhawks completed the comeback to take the series on Wednesday night with a 2-1 overtime victory. Patrick Sharp’s goal early in the second period gave the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead, but Henrik Zetterberg evened things for Detroit less than a minute into [...]

The Hawks were owed, apparently

I don't want to take away from the quick take as the place I hope you feel safest to vent regarding the Red Wings' Game 7 loss... But I'm very angry. Very angry with the media that I've tried to respect while serving as a complimentary voice to objectivity. I feel like Sarah *#$%@& Palin on Fox News, a tinfoil-hat wearing nut-job for saying this to some extent...
