The Philadelphia Flyers will square off against the Los Angeles Kings tonight in an early season hockey clash. Tonight doesn't just represent an opportunity for the Flyers to go 4-0 to start a season for the 1st time since 1995, it is also a battle against the past of the Flyers organization. The most obvious figure of the past for the Flyers is Mike Richards. Richards is the guy who captained this Flyers team for the past few years, and came within two wins of bringing the Stanley Cup back to Philly in 2010. Richards was traded to the Los Angeles Kings on June 23rd in the second of a series of moves that would redefine this Flyers team and it's organizational philosophy. In trading Richards and his longtime friend and teammate, Jeff Carter, the Flyers made a commitment to a new direction in their way of thinking.
