The Toronto Maple Leafs have some serious issues down the middle after the NHL announced Thursday, centre Nazem Kadri has been suspended for 3 games. Kadri was suspended for one of the two hits to the head that he committed during the Maple Leafs game against the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday. The suspension handed down by NHL director of player safety Brendan Shanahan was for the hit Kadri delivered at 7 minutes 7 seconds of the first period to the head of Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom. “While we accept Kadri’s assertion [the hit] is not intentional, he still bears the responsibility for avoiding or at least making a better attempt to avoid or minimize contact such as this. He does neither,” Shanahan said. At the time, all Kadri received was a two-minute minor penalty for goaltender interference. Backstrom was forced to leave the game later on and this may have played a role in the suspension. Kadri, 23, is a first time offender. The Leafs are now without their top three centers, as Tyler Bozak (hamstring), Dave Bolland (foot) are both on the long-term injured reserve list. Kadri will be able to re-join the Leafs on November 21 against the Islanders in Toronto, the same day Bozak is eligible to return from his injury. The Leafs will need to find a replacement for Kadri, posibily by calling up someone like Trevor Smith from the Marlies. It has also been suggested that the Leafs might try to move offensive d-man Jake Gardnier to centre. Gardnier played centre before switching to defense in college. Kadri will lose $44,615.37 (U.S.) in salary during his suspension. The post Toronto Maple Leafs’ Nazem Kadri suspended for 3 games. appeared first on UTSN.
