Sometimes... Darryl Sutter just makes my job so easy:

(on Dustin Penner scoring again…)
SUTTER: “Good for him. He moved his feet, shot on the fly. He looked like Mark Messier. [grins]

Here is an artists' rendering of Darryl Sutter grinning after making a joke.

Obviously, Darryl Sutter was referring to this goal from Tuesday night in which Dustin Penner single-handedly ruined the San Jose Sharks season and Antti Niemi's confidence.

You know what... despite the 10 goals in 71 games as a member of the Los Angeles Kings... Dustin Penner does look a lot like Mark Messier.

Just like Messier, Dustin Penner's career began in a small town.

Just like Messier, he was part of a great youth movement in a non-traditional hockey market.

Just like Messier, he won the Stanley Cup at a young age.

Just like Messier, he's always made himself available to fans.

Just like Messier, he signed a controversial contract with a Canadian franchise.

Just like Messier, he's always been a hit with the ladies.

And just like Messier, he's looking to lead an underachieving team deep into the playoffs.

Did Blues relocate their edge in loss to Kings?

Blues coach Ken Hitchcock liked his team's challenge Thursday night, a meeting with the high-flying Los Angeles Kings. Hitchcock hasn't been happy with the Blues' compete level the past few games, and with the Kings riding a five-game winning streak, they would force his club to find its edge. It's bizarre to think that the Blues located it while being shut out...

Jeff Quirin: Blues @ Ducks Game Day Quick Hits

Though time at home passed quickly this week for the St. Louis Blues they made the most of it. Swinging through town to show off their new offensive threat and pick up a couple guys who couldn’t come along for the first leg of a seven consecutive game stretch away from Scottrade Center. Tonight the back half of the trip kicks off in Anaheim where the Blues are in search of...

Kings 1, Blues 0, SO

Jonathan Quick held his own in a brilliant goaltending duel with Brian Elliott, posting his franchise record-tying eighth shutout of the season for the Los Angeles Kings, and Jeff Carter scored the deciding goal in the fourth round of a shootout in a 1-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night. The Kings took over first place in the Pacific Division with their season...

Ducks Come Back to Defeat Blues 4-3

Given how the game started between the Ducks and Blues, you would never have guessed that Anaheim would be the team who came out on top.  Yet they got their act together and pulled off 4-3 defeat of St. Louis, the best team in the NHL.  How big a deal is that?  It was the first defeat of the Blues who were 37-0-1 when scoring three or more goals in a game..   Too bad the Ducks...

Blues-Kings Preview

Maintaining their spot among the top eight teams in the Western Conference remains the primary focus for the Los Angeles Kings. Avoiding a first-round matchup with the West-leading St. Louis Blues might also be worth thinking about. Hoping to better their playoff position, the Kings look to extend their season-best winning streak to six games when they host the Blues in a potential...
