Who were the only two guys at Staples Center Saturday night that weren't excited about Jon Quick's record-setting performance against the Dallas Stars?

Jamie Storr and Nelson Emerson.
Because they never got to play on a Kings team this good.

So now that Jon Quick has recorded 3 consecutive shutouts, he has a rare opportunity to eclipse the legendary performance of a goaltending legend.

I guess it just depends on your definition of the word "legend."

On December 31st, 2003 against the Los Angeles Kings, Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Brian Boucher began a streak in which he did not give up a goal against for 332 minutes, which is 5 1/2 half games and 146 saves. The previous record of 309:21 and four consecutive shutouts was set by Montreal's Bill Durnan in 1949. No, Ethan Moreau was not a teammate of his. Moreau joined the Canadiens the following season.

Of course, Boucher's impressive scoreless streak was just one of several amazing accomplishments put forth by the Coyotes during their incredibly successful seaso.... WHAAAAAT?!?!?!?

Oh... last in the Pacific and 26th overall that season, huh? (EDITORS NOTE: You know the 4 teams that finished worse than Phoenix in 2003-2004? Columbus, Chicago, Washington and Pittsburgh. My... how times have changed... except in Columbus.) Okay... well even if Phoenix didn't have such a great season that year... at least Brian Boucher led all NHL goaltenders in most categories, right? RIGHT?!?!

The only shutouts Boucher had that season were the 5 in a row.
****, even Roman Cechmanek had 5 shutouts in 2003-2004.

So before you start Googling for plane tickets to Thursday nights game in Dallas so you can see Quick break the record in person... just remember... yes, it's amazingly awesome that Jon Quick had 3 shutouts in a row. And it's amazingly awesome that for the first time in 33 years, the Los Angeles Kings truly have someone they can call a Franchise Goaltender... but when Jon Quick gives up a goal in the 1st minute of play against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday... just remember how ******* great this team is playing in front of him right now. Because they are. And they are doing it without Drew Doughty. Oh... and speaking of removing all Doughty... TRH reader, Mae, let me know that's exactly what the Flyers Broadcast Team congratulated the home team on doing during the Kings-Flyers game October 15th.

Drew Doughty would leave the game in the next few minutes with an undisclosed shoulder injury. So it seems like the Flyers plan of removing all Doughty worked just fine. At least for the Kings, it has. So when your favorite hockey team is 5-1-1 with a 4 game winning streak and a 1.29 goals against/per game average... what's the only thing you can do to top it?

A giant ******* distorted chalk drawing of Dustin Brown standing in an above-ground pool, that's what!

Since it's the global mission this season for LA Kings Game Entertainment to dominate... well... the LA Kings game entertainment in and around Staples Center, it was announced on Twitter shortly before the game that all fans should check out the 3D Chalk Drawing of Dustin Brown. And that was the hard part... actually seeing it.

So let me get this straight... you want fans to come and see a 3D chalk drawing of their Captain,
but you can only correctly see the 3D chalk drawing of the Captain while standing in one spot,
and if you really want to see it you should look through a camera viewfinder while in that one spot.
Well, if that doesn't appeal to every fan... what does?

In case you don't know exactly what a 29 degree angle is... here's what the 3D Chalk Drawing of Dustin Brown should really look like:

Completely stolen from Rudy Kelly.

I dunno... even from 29 degrees, 5'5" and through a viewfinder...
it still looks like Dustin Brown is skating on an above-ground pool.

Next time, LA Kings Game Entertainment... maybe you should bring in a 3D Chalk Artist who actually has an idea of what Dustin Brown looks like.
