I'm not sure if I've ever seen a player finish with a minus-7 rating in one game in my life. I'm not sure if that's a testament to how bad Chris Butler and the Calgary Flames were tonight or how dominant the Boston Bruins have become. Fresh off a six-goal outing against the Devils last night, the Bruins outdid themselves tonight, this time with a nine spot. But, somehow, these routs have become...

Flames acquire center Jones from Lightning

The Calgary Flames have acquired center Blair Jones from the Tampa Bay Lightning for defenseman Brendan Mikkelson. Jones has appeared in 78 career NHL games, including 22 this season with Tampa Bay. The 25-year-old had two goals and two assists. ''Flames general manager Jay Feaster called Jones ''a good-sized centerman and someone we feel will fit in well here....

Flames Defenseman Chris Butler Had Game to Forget Against Bruins (Video)

Suffice to say Calgary defenseman Chris Butler won't add any moments from the Jan. 5, 2012 game to his personal highlight reel. The Flames defenseman, who entered the game against the Bruins with a plus-3, finished 9-0 beating with a minus-4. Check out Butler's rough day as the Ketel One Honorable Moment in the video above.

Bourque suspended five games

Former Wisconsin Badger Rene Bourque has been suspended by the NHL's Senior Vice President of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan for five games for a vicious elbow to the head of Washington Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom this is after being suspended on December 19th by the NHL for his hit on Brent Seabrook. Apparently Bourque doesn't like playing against the Wild, because...

Calgary, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today the acquisition of centerman Blair Jones from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for defenseman Brendan Mikkelson. “Blair is a player that both Brent Sutter and I are familiar with,” stated Flames General Manager Jay Feaster. “He is a good sized centerman and someone we feel will fit in well here with our organization....

Flames' Bourque banned 5 games for elbow (AP)

Calgary Flames forward Rene Bourque has been suspended five games by the NHL for elbowing Washington's Nicklas Backstrom in the head. Bourque was given a minor penalty for elbowing Tuesday night for his hit on Backstrom at 10:06 of the third period of Calgary's 3-1 loss at Washington. Backstrom played two more shifts before leaving the game.

Brendan Mikkelson will set out to toughen up Tampa Bay Lightning blue line

Brendan Mikkelson’s nurturing in the AHL is done, for now. The  defenceman for the Abbostford Heat, affiliate to the Calgary Flames, is packing his backs for Tampa Bay, to help fill the void in some patches in the vulnerable Lightning blue line. All right, the crease is pretty vulnerable in Tampa Bay, too. But, regardless, Tampa Bay is allowing a league-worst 3...

Trending Topics: It’s only ever been Jarome Iginla and the Calgary Flames

Trending Topics is a column that looks at the week in hockey according to Twitter. If you're only going to comment to say how stupid Twitter is, why not just go have a good cry for the slow, sad death of your dear internet instead? A thing I've always hated about commercials for sporting events is when the announcer says something like, "Wednesday, Pavel Datsyuk and...

Wild-Flames Preview

The Calgary Flames are back home following an awful trip. The Minnesota Wild hope their road-heavy stretch of games won't end up the same way. The Flames look to rebound from a blowout loss when they face a Wild team trying to avoid matching the second-longest road skid in club history Saturday night. Calgary's seven-game trip got off to a promising start with victories...

Flames' Rene Bourque gets five-game ban for elbow on Capitals' Nicklas Backstrom

Dale Hunter was the owner of the longest NHL suspension at the time when he laid out Pierre Turgeon well after a goal was scored in the 1993 Stanley Cup Playoffs. That wasn't his decision, and on Wednesday as coach of the Washington Capitals he didn't want to insert his ...

Late Evening Line

“Everybody had better look in the mirror, take a long, hard look, and have a little gut-check time. “We looked like a bunch of minor leaguers out there. It looked like an NHL team playing a bunch of midget players. Soft, turnovers, we might have had a few finished checks all night. “Brutal.” -Curtis Glencross of the Calgary Flames after losing 9-0 to Boston.  More on...
