This is a different kind of scoring touch. The Dallas Stars held a one goal lead over the Edmonton Oilers with seconds to go in their Wednesday tilt.  The Oilers were pressing with their young, explosive talent, but Dallas coach Lindy Ruff chose to counter with a young star of his own: Tyler Seguin. Ruff’s decision to play Seguin in a defensive role with seconds remaining on the clock shows that the former Bruin has improved enough as a disciplined defender that his coach has faith in him to do what he can to preserve a one-goal lead. Seguin did more than preserve, though. As Taylor Hall – picked right above Seguin in the 2011 draft — fanned on a pass attempt, Seguin corralled the puck from one knee and hoisted it down the length of the ice. Lucky for him, Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk had gone to the bench in favor of an extra attacker, so Seguin’s lob shot sailed directly into the empty net. Therein lies the problem with Seguin — even when he’s playing defense, he’s looking to score. C

Eklund: Daley Attracting Interest: Edmonton, Ottawa, Others

Established NHL defensemen with good mobility come at a premium these days. With the explosion of proven defensemen's salaries, that's especially true for players who are signed for years to come at moderate cap hits. Igor Larionov On The Play Of The Oilers

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, Larionov feels wingers, not just Yakupov, but presumably Oiler kids Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle maybe should get more leeway. He certainly believes wingers have to help out, “but they have to score too. You have to have a balance,” he said. “You can’t play 70 per cent defence and 30 per cent offence. There’s 17,000 people...

Linus Omark scores phenomenal game-winning goal in AHL

Edmonton Oilers prospect Linus Omark has been stuck playing in the AHL with the Oklahoma City Barons for most of his career.  Omark is small, skilled forward and the Oilers have plenty of those, so Omark continues to dazzle in the AHL.  The YouTube sensation absolutely shredded San Antonio Rampage forward/Florida Panthers prospect Drew Shore and then buried a gorgeous shot past...

Neverending Story

Who cares about draft picks anymore? Honestly. If you are in Edmonton, you have seen enough of highly touted draft picks. You have seen enough “HOPE” (Hall Omark Paajarvi Eberle) and can look back at how that turned out. Omark is having a fantastic season in Oklahoma City, but is still not helping the NHL team while he’s there. Paajarvi is struggling to crack the St. Luis Blues...
