Found December 16, 2013 on Kukla's Korner:
According to the Detroit Red Wings, Johan Franzen will miss Tuesday's game with Anaheim while going through the concussion protocol for this hit yesterday from Tampa Bay's  Radko Gudas. Franzen received and unsportsmanlike penalty on the play for complaining about the hit and non-call. The NHL takes a look at all hits but will they take further action on this hit?

Detroit Red Wings falling back into familiar pattern

The Detroit Red Wings are really missing Captain Henrik Zetterberg (Photo Credit: Brian Babineau / Getty Images) The Detroit Red Wings have lost five in a row; two on the road, and three at home. Though both Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay are doing well this season, the Red Wings also lost back-to-back games against the bottom-feeding Florida Panthers in that span. It’s easy to blame...

Awwww… Petr Mrazek’s Winter Classic pads are too cute!

Former NHLer and Metro Detroit native Brent Johnson tweeted out a picture of what will apparently be Red Wings/Griffins goaltender Petr Mrazek’s pads for the upcoming Winter Classic. And instead of trying to intimidate the opposition, Mrazek is looking to steal the hearts of which ever team (Maple Leafs or Marlies) he plays.

Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek has the cutest holiday pads for outdoor game

As the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs get ready to play in this year’s Winter Classic at the Big House in Ann Arbor, their respective AHL affiliates are also gearing up to play an outdoor game at Comerica Park on December 30th. In anticipation of that matchup – the “Winter Festival” game – Petr Mrazek, goalie for the Grand Rapids Griffins (the Wings’ AHL affiliate...

George’s HBO 24/7 quick take: Show, don’t tell, and Babcock’s himself

I was the son of a probation officer who worked in Detroit in the 70's, 80's and early 90's, I also happen to have to write up a wrap-up of tonight's Wings loss and the Wings' prospects Saturday outings, and I know that the Wyshynskis of the world do a abso-*#$%@&-loutely fantastic job of breaking down the 24/7 phenomenon (no BS on my part--Wysh and company...

Video: Gustav Nyquist Robbed of Goal by Early Whistle

The Detroit Red Wings have been burned plenty in the past by early whistles and the NHL’s ridiculous “intent to blow” rule. Some lazy officiating cost them another goal Sunday vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning. Early in the first period, Gustav Nyquist circled the goal and fired a backhander on Ben Bishop, then tapped home a rebound after Bishop fumbled with the puck. Except …...

Red Wings Sunday prospect news: It could be worse?

Amongst Sunday's Red Wings prospect-related news... Uh, it could be worse? Whlie Anthony Mantha and the Canadian World Junior team head to Sweden, the Grand Rapids Griffins keep winning and even the Toledo Walleye have won two straight, the Red Wings are 2-for-December (2-4-and-2)... But they're not AIK Stockholm? During the last game played before the SHL goes on Christmas...

Red Wings off-day news: injury updates; on Jurco, Yzerman, the Hockeytown Winter Festival and Frk

I actually managed to get some sleep (rare!) thanks to Paul holding down the fort (and the Wings won't practice today; they will, however, make a significant charitable donation to Detroit's Clark Park rink at 3 PM, and again, the team practices outdoors at Comerica Park on Wednesday), but I've woken up to predictable news regarding the Red Wings' injury front from...

Tomas Jurco scores his first NHL goal

The Red Wings are predictably down 2-1 to the Anaheim Ducks at present, but the Wings blew a 1-goal lead because Tomas Jurco scored his first NHL goal--and it was a beauty:

Pens’ Engelland will chat with Department of Player Safety about shoulder to Red Wings’ Abdelkader

Update: This is not a good sign: Wings are calling up Tomas Jurco from Grand Rapids for tomorrow's game with Abdelkader out, Ken Holland said. — Ansar Khan (@AnsarKhanMLive) December 15, 2013 Well okay then. Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader left Saturday's 3-1 loss to Pittsburgh after Deryk Engelland elbowed Abdelkader in the head (after the game, Wings...

Masterton Leader

About three weeks ago I picked Darren Helm of the Detroit Red Wings as the Masterton Trophy leader.  At that time I noted he was in a tight race with Manny Malhotra of Carolina.  Both overcame significant injury that kept them from contributing to their teams last season.  Their injury problems go back a couple years at least.  Both have made significant comebacks this season...

Steve Yzerman attempts to keep expectations low ahead of Red Wings’ Alumni Showdown appearance

Former Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman did his best managerial job on Sunday while speaking with the media, not working on making his Tampa Bay Lightning team a better one. As We All Bleed Red's Sanjay Sharda noted, Yzerman spoke with Fox Sports Detroit's John Keating for a short interview aired during the second intermission of Sunday's game, and Yzerman stated the following...
