As odd as a setup this fight was, Joey Crabb is a man who still needs to earn the respect of his coaches and general manager Brian Burke. Joey Crabb engaged in his first NHL fight within the last three years, and his second overall in his career. The AHL fringe player, who looks to have a home, for now, with 15 NHL games under his belt this season, took on a pretty big dog in the Boston Bruins’ yard. Joe Corvo isn’t big on fighting. In fact, his only other fight documented was years ago when he was on the Carolina Hurricanes. As a defenceman, Corvo flutters around 40 penalty minutes a year. But, as a seasoned veteran with a big of size, Corvo was a pretty good pick for Crabb to swing with. (You wouldn’t expect him to take on Milan Lucic just yet, would you?) The fight was pretty much a draw, and, frankly, kind of awkward. And it certainly didn’t add anything to the momentum of the game. The Leafs had already bit the bullet, and Crabb wanted to stick out as that guy who scrapped, apparently. Here’s the scrap: The last time Crabb fought was nearly exactly three years ago on Dec. 6, 2008, against Chris Campoli, who roughed Crabb up pretty good. Matthew Wilson is editor of Center Ice Chat.
