I've received a ton of e-mail and tweets lately regarding why the Rangers turnaround has been so dramatic since the Marian Gaborik trade. I've been asked if I thought Gaborik was possibly a cancer in the locker room and there was even a great conversation in the comments section of the Rangers/Hurricanes recap on this subject in response to Henrik Lundqvist's comments on the effect the trade has had on the team (via New York Post)... “It’s a different atmosphere in the room. Not only did we get some really skill players, but it changed the dynamic in the room. It’s just a lot better feeling in here.” ...i'll start this off by stating that neither any of you nor myself have been anywhere near the Rangers locker room, so this stuff is nothing more than speculation. Which is what this blog obviously does best. ;) ...having said that, based on the Rangers dramatic 180, I think it is a fair question to ask. ...my impressions of the Lundqvist quote is that ...

Grading Gaborik’s career as a Ranger

Throughout the course of his career as a Ranger, I was always pretty supportive of Marian Gaborik. While I understand some fans appreciate powerforwards more so than pure snipers, I try not to weigh one skill set vs. the other. At the end of the day, teams need skill and will players to create offensive balance. Indeed, Gaborik wasn’t one who created offense by lugging the puck...

DBJ - Buying time with Marian Gaborik

Whats in a number?

Im going so far out on a limb here, I believe you can hear it cracking from Columbus up to Cleveland and down to Cincinnati. Im saying no one in the history of the NHL has ever completed the trifecta that Blue Jackets center Mark Letestu did last week: In the same week, Letestu scored a huge OT goal to beat the Anaheim Ducks at Nationwide Arena, he signed a two-year contract extension...

Renee & Sheri: NYR – It’s Alive!

NYR: It’s Alive! Muahhaha Questionable right? We thought the New York Rangers had died too. But some life has been revived in the boys in blue! Since trading Marian Gaborik this past Wednesday, the Rangers are 2-0-1 as they vie feverishly for a playoff position. With Gaborik’s exit, cue Brassard, Zuccarello & Clowe’s entrance to [...]

Mike Tyson urges President Obama to pardon great legend Jack Johnson

BallertainmentMike Tyson supports presidential pardon for Jack Johnson A push to pardon (posthumously) late boxing great Jack Johnson now includes support from Mike Tyson. Johnson became the first black heavyweight boxing champion in 1908. Tyson joined Senator Harry Reid (a former amateur boxer,) and other U.S. lawmakers in an effort to get President Barack Obama to grant a pardon...

Blue Jackets Make a Major Statement at the Trade Deadline

The Columbus Blue Jackets began their season as many of the pundits expected, starting their National Hockey League (NHL) lockout-shortened season by posting a record of 5-12-2 and seemed slated to grab one of the upcoming NHL Entry Draft’s lottery picks in June.  However, ignited by the seismic shakeup at the top of the organization in firing former General Manager (GM) Scott...

Glen Miller: Jackets Feeling the Blues After Loss to St. Louis

Just 24 hours after boosting their playoff chances with a 3 - 1 win against the Nashville Predators the Jackets dropped an important contest in St. Louis to the Blues. St. Louis holds the final playoff spot in the Western Conference and extended their lead over Columbus to three points following their 3 - 1 victory. Marian Gaborik, who potted a goal and added an assist in his...

Dear Blackhawks, Red Wings, and Maple Leafs fans... Your trade deadlines kicked ass!

Oh, sure, you could have been part of the Columbus fan base and watched your team make one of the biggest moves in the teams' history, acquiring Marian Gaborik, but then, you would probably have to live in Ohio and be a Blue Jackets' fan. Or you could be a Wild fan, who has watched the team suddenly spend all of their money on all of the players, but then have the sinking...
