We have gone back and forth and want to share the answers to the questions that need to be asked. Jaroslav Halak at 12? Steve Mason at 20? How about Jonathan Bernier over James Reimer? You can find all the details below and we welcome and encourage your comments. Esten Mclaren on Ryan Miller at 7 in his 2013-14 Fantasy Hockey Goalie Rankings You’re the only one to rank Ryan Miller inside the top 10, why do you think he’s in for a bounce back season? Short answer: contract year. Long answer: his save percentage was right on his career average of .915 last year. His goals against average was inflated due to play for a horrendous Sabres team. A slightly improved team around him, and the motivation to get out of there and make bank should be all he needs to be a fantasy stud. Mike Omelan on Carey Price at 10 in his 2013-14 Fantasy Hockey Goalie Rankings Carey Price is ranked as the 6th best fantasy hockey goalie according to our consensus, but you have him ranked at the number 10 spot. Why should we be cautious about drafting Carey so high? Did not like what I saw from him down the stretch last season. He finished with a career low .905 save percentage. Montreal still finished 2nd in the East last year, something I do not see happening at all again this year. They will be fighting for their playoff lives this season so I’ll take the guys who I think will get more wins. Anderson, Howard or Crawford. Chris Meaney on Jaroslav Halak at 12 in his 2013-14 Fantasy Hockey Goalie Rankings The consensus rank on Halak is 16. He’s coming off an injury plagued season where he split the net in St. Louis why is he so high on your list? Jaroslav Halak was unreal in 2011-12 posting a 26-12-7 record with a 1.97 GAA and a .926 save percentage. He also collected six shutouts and was ready to take control of the net in St. Louis as a result of his nice play. Last year he started his season with three wins and two shutouts in his first four games, but suffered a groin injury resulting in only 16 games. I think in a contract year he is ready to run the show in St. Louis and I believe the Blues will give him that chance. He is better than Brian Elliot and he’ll prove that again this year. Esten Mclaren on Sergei Bobrovsky at 17 in his 2013-14 Fantasy Hockey Goalie Rankings By ranking Sergei Bobrovsky at 17 you believe in him less than others on the site. Do you think he played over his head last year and is just not capable of repeating himself again this year? I essentially ranked him as a second or third goalie. I would need to see more than one (very) good year from him to have enough faith to not want a more experienced, proven goaltender than Bobrovsky. It’s a case where I’d rather miss out on him exceeding my expectations, than have him fail to meet them. Mike Omelan on Steve Mason at 20 in his 2013-14 Fantasy Hockey Goalie Rankings I like Mason in Philly – provided he keeps the starters job – a lot more than I did in Columbus. Despite almost making the playoffs last year (with a Vezina performance no less), the Lumbus are simply a trainwreck. They’re not doing anything to help their goalies along generally speaking, and I think a change of scenery is exactly what Mason needed. Let’s keep in mind that it wasn’t so long ago that Mason was the NHLs best rookie, but he never seemed to be able to regain that. It was a small sample last year after finding his way to the Flyers, but he went 4-2 in 7gp with a sub two GAA and a sterling .944 save percentage. If you can fit him in as your G2 then I think he’s worth the shot.  Mike Omelan on Jonathan Bernier at 26 in his 2013-14 Fantasy Hockey Goalie Rankings You are the only one to have Bernier ranked ahead of James Reimer. Why do you believe he will win the number one job in Toronto? Yeah it’s a tough one, but I like what I’ve seen from Jonathan Bernier in his starts with the LA Kings. Yes, the Leafs are no Kings, but he’s shown great flashes and I really like his confidence. I think the Leafs management likes him more too, thus should take over the starting gig after the first month or two. Plus, James Reimer has yet to finish a season without an injury, something that might hand Bernier the job outright.
