German biathlete Florian Graf was disqualified from a World Cup biathlon race last weekend for pointed his small-bore rifle at his own face.
Graf admitted to having a "blackout" moment during the race while at the shooting range when he paused to blow some moisture from the barrel of his rifle between shots. It is a scary moment to watch, and it goes without saying that Graf's "blackout" could have had disastrous consequences.
Graf apologized to the International Biathlon Union, and no additional punishment will be given. Hopefully this is a valuable lesson learned for Graf. And although this may be common sense for many of our readers, we wouldn't be doing our jobs if we didn't issue this warning: NEVER POINT A GUN AT YOUR OWN FACE. EVER.
