It's not unusual to see shattered glass during NHL hockey games, but we've never seen a pane of glass shatter during a speed skating race. Until now, that is.
It happened during the final of the 500 meters at Ontario Cup 4 in Belleville, Ontario, Canada this past Sunday. On the second lap, a skater on the inside of the track slipped and fell, upending the skater right behind him. That second skater fell head over heels, sending one of his legs straight up in the air, where the point of his skate hit the pane of glass and shattered it.
Looks like the fans watching got more than their money's worth. Gotta feel bad for the people that had to clean up the mess, though...they probably didn't get paid any extra for that.
