To drop to light heavyweight or not to drop to light heavyweight, that is the question Daniel Cormier (pictured) is contemplating after beating former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir this past Saturday.  Cormier had championship aspirations prior to entering the Octagon – going as far as calling out reigning 205-pound king Jon Jones and threatening to “kick his ass,” only to backpedal after admittedly “laying an egg” his big league debut – but it’s clear he’ll never look to challenge current heavyweight champ and American Kickboxing Academy teammate Cain Velasquez. So, where does that leave the former Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix winner? “I’m thinking about both weight divisions,” Cormier revealed on FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight.” “I’ve been watching the rankings and I want to fight someone who actually advances my career. “I’m interested in big fights. I’m getting with my team this week and to make a decision.” If a heavyweight title is what Cormier desires, he’ll have to bide his time against the weight class’ top contenders so if/when Velasquez loses, he’ll be in position to slide into a championship affair. If he wants a scrap with Jones, it’s presumed he’ll have to collect at least a couple of solid wins against the division’s elite before battling “Bones.” But at 36 years of age, the clock is ticking for Cormier. And he knows it.
