Everton is a notorious slow starter, but that wasn’t the case in the 2012-13 season. The Toffees shot out of the gate, beating Manchester United in their first Premier League game. Their form and consistency guided them into the upper echelon of the league, where they have remained ever since. There’s plenty of credit to go around, but it starts and ends with the manager. David Moyes has managed the club since 2002, transforming it from one battling relegation to one that is on the cusp of reaching the UEFA Champions League. It looks like magic to some, but it’s not. Moyes embodies and promotes values like community spirit and ambition to get the best out of his players. It has worked to varying degrees over the last decade, but this season has seen his approach reach a new level of effectiveness. NESN.com’s soccer editor Marcus Kwesi O’Mard is joined by two guests – Dan Bloom of Sirius XM Radio and freelance journalist Richard Buxton – to examine Everton’s successful start and its prospects for the second half of the season. What is Moyes’ secret? How will transfer speculation affect his team’s fortunes? The three discuss these things and more in the latest NESN.com podcast.
