Former Brentford captain Pontus Jansson has detailed the process of him returning to Malmo FF this summer.

Jansson admits he's made a major financial sacrifice to return home.

He told Sportexpressen: "There was a lot of back and forth, one day it was 'okay, it won't work' the next day it was 'okay, there is hope'. The day after that, you meet someone else and feel 'this probably won't work out'. You can't understand how big it really is to have the Premier League, to be captain and all that.

"I don't want to slander them (MFF), but I don't really think they understood what money I had in England that I was going to throw away. If Malm had no financial opportunities, I would of course not have put them in any trouble. But I had an idea of what this could generate, they get something more than just me going out on the field and playing."

The centre-back also says that a conversation with Malm FF's chairman Anders Plsson was what decided the matter.

"He (Plsson) actually said in words that 'okay, this chance we have to get you home now, captain and at a good age, we shouldn't be able to miss it'. Then everything went quickly after that. I called him (Plsson) and of course he was full of flames. Without him, it wouldn't have happened, I think."
