Seattle headed to Carson, California after a 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps, and were looking to make it four wins out of five. Seattle made one change to the team that won in the Cascadia Cup, with Alex Caskey making way for Fredy Montero to partner Eddie Johnson up top.
And it was Seattle who opened the scoring with 10 minutes on the clock, as Evans was played through by Montero who slipped the ball past the former Sounder Riley, and gave Evans the easiest finish, by side footing it past Dan Kennedy.
But within 5 minutes Chivas USA should have been tied but Townsend’s header could not find the back of the net, and they were made to pay when Montero made it 2-0 and his first of the night.
Montero ran the line of the defense and after a deadly ball through by Rosales, he found a tight angle and slotted into the far corner.
