Fox Sports will be airing the World Cup in 2018, but they certainly want to gain some positive momentum and good will with soccer fans during the 2014 tournament in Brazil. FS1 has armed itself with numerous broadcasters, analysts and writers in an effort to bring an entertaining and unique spin on the tournament. FS1 will have two men in the heart of the action with Grant Wahl reporting from the U.S. camp and Geoff Shreeves keeping up with England. The channel will feature daily studio coverage as well as the expected highlights and analysis each night on Fox Sports Live. Former players will be a major feature for FS1 during the tournament, including Eric Wynalda, Cobi Jones, Warren Barton and Mario Melchiot. Some of the best offerings from the organization may be found online on FOXSoccer.com where daily articles and analysis will be posted on all of the events taking place in Brazil. Perhaps most interesting, Fox has brought on board noted soccer writer Jonathan Wilson (who featured in our World Cup fantasy draft) for the 2014 tournament. That’s a move that could bring Fox’s soccer offering some much needed credibility. In all, plan on seeing a ton of World Cup coverage on FS1. It’ll be tough to steal ratings away from the networks which are actually broadcasting the games (ABC, ESPN), but FS1 has assembled a team they believe viewers will seek out for additional coverage to build that relationship ahead of 2018.
