While most soccer headlines read stories about the Euro 2012 tournament, Lionel Messi was writing his own headlines today in an international friendly between Argentina and Brazil. The match, played in a soldout MetLife stadium in New Jersey, was a goal-heavy performance from both sides as it finished in a 4-3 victory for Argentina.

Being that it was an international friendly, the game held no real significance for the rivals other than to show off the world’s best footballing countries’ skills (and a nice paycheck). But, if you have ever watched a match between Argentina and Brazil, you know there is no such thing as a “friendly” between the two. Argentina’s Ezequiel Lavezzi and Brazil’s Marcelo were both awarded red cards in stoppage time.

Goals were scored by Brazil’s Romulo in the 24th minute, Santos Oscar in the 57th minute and Hulk in the 73rd minute. Argentina answered with goals by Messi in the 32nd and 35th minutes and another by Fernandez in the 77th minute. But, it was Messi who stole what proved to be the winner in the 85th minute with another brilliant strike from deep that left Brazilian keeper with no chance.
