Ian Hogson Manchester City made their intentions known as they hosted league leaders Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, in what was overall, a fantastic display of goal-scoring abilities. After an inspiring victory away at Bayern Munich, Manuel Pellegrini’s side took another huge step forward by trouncing Arsenal at home. Sergio Aguero opened up the scoring in the 14th minute, however Theo Walcott leveled back the scoreline a little over fifteen minutes later.  Soon after, Negredo put the ball in the net for the seventh time in the league this season, giving City the advantage going into halftime. Only five minutes into the second half, Fernandinho doubled City’s advantage with a goal of his own.  Walcott tried to bring back his side with a second goal. However, David Silva would score to cancel out his goal only three minutes later.  The game went quiet for a bit, leaving one thinking the score may finish 4-2. However, there would be some late excitement as Fernandinho struck again in the 88th minute.  Per Mertesacker then headed in a goal in stoppage time before Yaya Toure finished off the days scoring with a converted penalty. Ian Hogson Arsenal may claim to be unlucky on the day, as a few referee’s decisions may have not went their way.  However, the truth is that Manchester City were the better team on the day.  Now only three points back from the Gunners, City look poised to make a second season title push.  This is not the first time that City have dismantled a quality club. Tottenham found a similar fate in their last visit to the Etihad. Manchester City have been untouchable at home, having scored in their last 58 consecutive games at the Etihad. City have scored a league-leading 47 goals this season. Only 12 of those, however have come away from home. If the Manchester club can sort out its away form, there is nothing stopping them from taking the lead position in the league in the next month.  With the greatest strength of depth in the league and the look of a squad that is beginning to truly find its identity, they appear to be a step ahead of other title contenders like Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.
