With a ticket to Brazil 2014 on the line Mexico will go into their September qualifiers against Honduras and the United States without America defender Miguel Layun or Chivas de Guadalajara midfielder Marco Fabian.
Jose Manuel Del La Torre reverted to his Confederations Cup squad with very few surprises in his selection. Notable is the inclusion of naturalized players Chaco Gimenez and Damian Alvarez.
Surprisingly, Layun and Fabian were not recalled to El Tri after distinguished performances in the 2013 Gold Cup.
Fabian has been struggling to find his form with his club, as Guadalajara continues to falter in the Liga MX. But Fabian proved in the Gold Cup and in the Olympics that when linked up with the right players he could do great things.
